Robert Half reported that suspicious logins targeted 1,058 customer accounts between April 26 and May 16, 2022. The company said it had no evidence that account information was accessed or downloaded. The incident report establishes account targeting—not confirmed data theft.
What happened to Robert Half customer accounts?
SecurityWeek reported on June 17, 2022, that Robert Half had begun notifying customers after suspicious logins targeted accounts on RobertHalf.com. Information the company provided to the Maine Attorney General said the activity took place from April 26 through May 16, 2022, and was discovered on May 31. The reported impact was 1,058 individuals. SecurityWeek’s report attributed those details to the company’s information provided to Maine authorities.
Was personal information accessed or stolen?
The reported accounts could contain names, addresses, Social Security numbers, wage and tax information, and direct-deposit bank account numbers. Only the final four digits of those bank account numbers were visible. Robert Half’s customer notice, quoted by SecurityWeek, said the company had no evidence that the information was actually accessed or downloaded. The report therefore does not establish that personal data was exposed or taken.
“While we do not have evidence that this information was actually accessed or downloaded, in the interest of transparency we wanted to inform you about this incident and provide you with the information in this letter.”

How did Robert Half respond?
According to the notice excerpt reported by SecurityWeek, Robert Half required affected users to reset their account passwords and strengthened authentication controls on its website. The notice also advised people to change passwords on other accounts if they had reused the same credentials.
Was this a confirmed credential-stuffing attack?
No. SecurityWeek said the reported activity appeared consistent with credential stuffing, a technique that tests username-and-password combinations exposed in other breaches against another service. That was the publication’s interpretation of the brief incident description and password-reuse advice, not a confirmed finding. SecurityWeek also reported that Robert Half had not clarified whether its own systems were breached.
What should affected customers do?
- Follow any password-reset instructions sent by Robert Half. If you can no longer access your account, use the company’s official account-recovery channel.
- Change the password anywhere else you used the same one. Give each account a unique password; a password manager can help you keep track of them.
- Be alert for unexpected messages or calls that use personal or employment-related details to ask for passwords, payment, or sensitive information. Do not provide credentials through an unsolicited link.
- If you see suspicious activity on a bank account, contact the bank through its official number or app. The reported notice said only the final four digits of direct-deposit bank numbers were visible, and the company said it had no evidence the information was accessed or downloaded.
Is identity monitoring available?
SecurityWeek reported that Robert Half offered impacted individuals two years of Experian identity monitoring in its 2022 coverage. That was a reported offer at the time; it should not be treated as a currently available general offer. Check any notice you received for the terms and any enrollment deadline.

Robert Half’s current security and data privacy page says independent third parties review its security program and controls annually, specialists assess systems used to serve clients and candidates, and an annual audit focuses on controls associated with the integrity of its financials. Those statements describe company policy; they do not establish the technical cause or scope of the 2022 account-targeting incident.
