Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf your iPhone shows a green bubble in a conversation with an Android phone, that is normal: green means the message is using RCS or carrier-based SMS/MMS rather than iMessage. It does not, by itself, mean the text failed. If you see a red exclamation point or “Not Delivered,” check the connection, retry the message, and then work through the steps below.
First, tell whether the text actually failed
Apple uses green bubbles for messages sent with RCS or SMS/MMS, including messages to Android phones. Look for a red exclamation point or a “Not Delivered” alert to identify a send failure; bubble color alone is not a delivery indicator. Apple explains the message status and color indicators.

Message type affects what connection is needed. iMessage, RCS, and MMS use Wi-Fi or cellular data. SMS needs cellular network service; SMS over Wi-Fi may work when Wi-Fi Calling is enabled. Apple’s troubleshooting guidance and the iPhone User Guide describe these routes.
| Message type | Typical use | What it depends on | What you’ll see |
|---|---|---|---|
| iMessage | Messages between Apple devices with iMessage enabled | Wi-Fi or cellular data | Blue bubble |
| RCS | Messages between iPhone and non-Apple devices where supported | iOS 18 or later and a carrier plan that supports RCS on iPhone; availability varies by carrier and region | Green bubble; supports richer features than SMS |
| SMS/MMS | Carrier messaging, including messages to non-Apple phones | Carrier service and supported plan; SMS needs cellular service, while MMS needs data connectivity | Green bubble; SMS is text, while MMS can carry multimedia |
Apple’s descriptions of message sending and troubleshooting, message types, and iPhone messaging explain these distinctions.
#1 Best Overall
- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Retry the failed message and check the basics
- Verify the recipient. Open the conversation and confirm the phone number is correct, including the country code if relevant.
- Check the connection that message type needs. For iMessage, RCS, or MMS, confirm Wi-Fi or cellular data is available. For SMS, check cellular signal; if relying on Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Calling must be enabled and supported.
- Retry the message. Tap the red exclamation point or “Not Delivered” alert and choose the retry option if shown.
- Restart the iPhone. If the retry fails, restart the phone and try again.
These are among Apple’s recommended checks for a failed message. See Apple’s message troubleshooting steps.
Try SMS fallback when iMessage is unavailable
For an individual failed message, tap its red exclamation point and choose Send as Text Message if the option appears. To let the iPhone try SMS automatically when iMessage is unavailable, go to Settings > Apps > Messages > Send as Text Message and turn it on. The option depends on carrier support, and messaging rates may apply. Apple documents SMS fallback and possible charges.

If this started after setting up a new iPhone or changing a line
For some new-device messaging problems, Apple recommends checking activation and the line used for messages:
- Update iOS if an update is available.
- Go to Settings > Cellular and confirm the intended line is turned on.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Messages, turn iMessage off, then turn it back on.
- Open Send & Receive and select the phone number you want to use.
Apple lists these steps for certain issues sending or receiving messages after setting up a device. Check Apple’s current instructions.

Check RCS only if your carrier and region support it
RCS is not required for basic texting to Android. SMS/MMS may be the available carrier route. If you want to check RCS, open Settings > Apps > Messages > RCS Messaging, if that setting is present. Apple says iPhone RCS requires iOS 18 and a cellular plan from a carrier that supports RCS on iPhone; availability varies by carrier and region. If you do not see the control, RCS may not be available for your device, carrier, or region. Apple’s RCS requirements and availability details.

If SMS, MMS, or RCS continues to fail, ask your wireless carrier to confirm that your plan supports the message type, your line is provisioned for it, and there is no service issue. Apple notes that these are carrier-provided services and advises contacting the carrier when they persistently fail. You can ask specifically: “Is my line provisioned to send SMS/MMS, and is RCS on iPhone supported on my plan and in my region?” Apple Support guidance.

If iMessage itself is failing, contact Apple Support. The exact carrier-side cause cannot be determined from the green bubble or error alone; it depends on your carrier, plan, region, device, and the failure symptoms. Apple’s troubleshooting page distinguishes carrier messaging escalation from iMessage support.
