No. Phrack Issue 63, published in 2005, marked an editorial handover—not the end of the magazine. Phrack later returned after a release gap, and its official site identifies Issue 72, dated August 19, 2025, as the current issue. The site also advertises a planned Issue 73, but that announcement is not confirmation that it has been published.
Why people ask whether Phrack ended
Phrack’s history includes dramatic transition language and a genuine publishing pause, so more than one issue can look like a finale when read out of context. The clues refer to different things: a staff timeline in Issue 60, an editorial transition in Issue 63, and a return after a hiatus in Issue 69.
| Issue | What the introduction says | What it means for the publication |
|---|---|---|
| 60 (2002) | The editor-in-chief timeline is called “final, latest, incomplete and maybe incorrect.” Phrack Issue 60 introduction | The qualification refers to the timeline, not to Phrack ending. The same introduction says issues were available online. |
| 63 (2005) | The staff says the issue marks “the end of the line for some and the start of the line for others,” and anticipates a new regime. Phrack Issue 63 introduction | An editorial handover, not a declaration that the magazine had ceased publication. |
| 69 (2016) | The staff refers to the last release having been in 2012 and describes its return. Phrack Issue 69 introduction | A real gap in releases followed by a revival; the hiatus did not become a permanent ending. |
What is the latest Phrack issue?
The official Phrack site labels Issue 72 as the current issue and dates its release August 19, 2025. Phrack Issue 72 includes 16 articles, according to its introduction, spanning subjects such as PHP, macOS IOKit, WebAssembly, rsync remote code execution, Android app similarity, and CPU backdoors. It also includes a profile, a puzzle, and a CTF.
The Issue 72 introduction frames the edition around 40 years of Phrack and describes the publication as “both a technical journal and a cultural document.” That characterization is the staff’s own account of the magazine’s purpose: its issues combine technical material with a record of hacker culture and its changing concerns.

Has Issue 73 been published?

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can you get a printed copy?
Issue 72’s introduction thanks donors who funded printing of its anniversary edition. That confirms a physical print run, but it does not establish that copies are currently for sale, identify a price, or confirm stock from any retailer. The issue is available online through its official page; the evidence for print alone should not be mistaken for a current purchasing offer.
