If your Samsung phone keeps disconnecting from mobile data after One UI 8.5, the update’s timing alone does not prove it caused the problem. Samsung’s guidance points to several possible causes, including coverage, account or plan status, network settings, SIM/eSIM provisioning, and software. First note whether the phone loses cellular signal entirely, keeps signal bars but loses internet, or drops only from 5G; then work through these checks from least disruptive to most involved.
Is One UI 8.5 causing the disconnects?
Samsung has not confirmed a general One UI 8.5 defect that disconnects cellular data. Samsung’s support guidance instead recommends checking the plan, service area, mobile-network mode, SIM/APN configuration, software, and device condition. A Samsung Community beta user has reported losing data connectivity, but an individual post does not establish how common the problem is or confirm a software defect (Samsung Community report).
There is a separate, specific One UI 8.5 connectivity reference: Samsung Knox says an enterprise-managed Wi-Fi policy can cause a device to switch to mobile data or display a Wi-Fi warning when a background Wi-Fi connectivity check fails. Knox says that managed Wi-Fi issue is resolved in Android 16 with One UI 8.5 or later; it is not evidence of a general cellular-data problem (Samsung Knox documentation).
One UI 8.5 began rolling out in Korea on May 6, 2026, with other regions following, and Samsung notes that availability varies by market and model (Samsung’s rollout announcement). Firmware histories for the U.S. Galaxy S23 and S24+ are examples of device-specific updates, not proof that every model, carrier, or region received the same build at the same time (Galaxy S23 update history; Galaxy S24+ update history).

12 checks for Samsung mobile data that keeps disconnecting
1. Check your account, plan, and carrier outage status
Confirm that your line is active, your account has no restriction, and your plan includes the data service you expect. If you rely on 5G, ask whether your plan supports it. Check with your carrier for a local outage or provisioning issue; Samsung also recommends verifying plan and account status with the carrier (Samsung mobile-network guidance).
2. Test in another location
Check whether the connection drops in more than one known coverage area. If it happens only in one place or where signal is weak, coverage is a more likely explanation than a phone-wide software fault. Samsung identifies the access region as a possible cause of mobile-network problems (Samsung mobile-network guidance).
3. Check Mobile data and Airplane mode
Open Quick Settings and make sure Mobile data is enabled and Airplane mode is off. Airplane mode prevents network connections. If it is already off, toggling it on briefly and then off can prompt the phone to reconnect; check whether service returns before moving on (Samsung disconnection and no-signal guidance).

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

4. Restart the phone
Restart your Galaxy to clear a temporary network or system state. After it starts, allow it to reconnect and check whether the same kind of disconnect returns. Samsung includes restarting among its network and SIM troubleshooting checks (Samsung signal guidance; Samsung SIM guidance).

5. Install available official updates
Go to Settings → Software update → Download and install. Install any update offered for your device, then see whether the problem persists. Menu wording may vary by model, region, carrier, and software version. Samsung recommends checking for software updates when troubleshooting network issues (Samsung disconnection and no-signal guidance; Samsung signal guidance).
6. Check whether the SIM or eSIM is recognized
For a physical SIM, check that it is seated correctly and has no visible damage. Verify that the carrier appears in the phone’s SIM status. For an eSIM, contact the carrier to confirm that the profile is active and provisioned for your line. If the SIM appears faulty, ask the carrier to test or replace it rather than buying a replacement yourself; the carrier handles provisioning (Samsung SIM guidance).

7. Try another available network mode
Open Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Network mode and compare the modes available on your phone. If the connection drops only when using a particular mode, test another carrier-supported option and observe the result. Available choices vary, and Samsung cautions that a selected mode may not work in every carrier or location; turning off 5G is not a guaranteed fix (Samsung mobile-network guidance; Samsung disconnection and no-signal guidance).
8. Review roaming if you are outside your carrier’s home area
If you are traveling beyond your carrier’s usual coverage, ask whether roaming is included before enabling data roaming. Roaming availability, settings, and charges depend on your carrier and plan; Samsung warns that roaming can incur additional charges (Samsung data-usage guidance).
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors9. Reset APNs to their defaults
An incorrect access point name (APN) can prevent a mobile-data connection. Go to Settings → Connections → Mobile networks → Access Point Names, tap More options, then choose Reset to default. Menu names may differ. If your carrier or employer uses a custom APN, check with them before resetting it; you may need their settings afterward (Samsung disconnection and no-signal guidance; Samsung data-usage guidance).

10. Reset mobile-network settings
Try Settings → General management → Reset → Reset mobile network settings, then confirm. Some versions use different wording or offer a broader network-settings reset. Read the confirmation screen before proceeding: customized network or APN configuration may be removed, and a broader reset may affect saved Wi-Fi or Bluetooth data. Samsung recommends resetting network settings when mobile-network problems continue (Samsung mobile-network guidance; Samsung data-usage guidance).
11. Run Samsung Members diagnostics and check for app conflicts
Open Samsung Members → Support → Phone diagnostics → Mobile network and run the test. If the disconnects began after installing an app, test the phone in Safe mode. Samsung says that if the problem disappears in Safe mode, a downloaded app may be responsible (Samsung disconnection and no-signal guidance; Samsung signal guidance).
If you are running a One UI beta and can reproduce the issue, send a report through Samsung Members soon after it occurs so relevant logs can be captured. Samsung warns that beta software may contain bugs and provides feedback through the beta program (Samsung One UI Beta program). That warning applies to beta software and is not a finding that stable One UI 8.5 has this defect.

12. Ask the carrier or Samsung to investigate
Contact your carrier to check line provisioning, account status, local network conditions, SIM/eSIM activation, and the correct APN values. If the carrier finds no issue or the phone still loses its connection, contact Samsung support or arrange service diagnostics (Samsung mobile-network guidance).
A factory reset is a later option, not the next step after a disconnect. Back up your data first: a reset erases it, and it may not permanently resolve an app or software defect. Samsung lists service as an option when disconnections continue (Samsung mobile-network guidance; Samsung signal guidance).

- Cellular bars disappear: Check coverage, SIM/eSIM recognition, and carrier service or provisioning.
- Bars remain, but apps lose internet: Check account status, Mobile data, APN, and network settings.
- Only 5G drops: Test another network mode offered by your carrier and compare the result in a different coverage area.
- It happens only while traveling: Confirm roaming eligibility and charges with your carrier before changing roaming settings.
These clues help direct troubleshooting; none by itself proves that One UI 8.5 is responsible.
