Monstrous Cusk is found at Gloomy Crevice, the green-lit area in The Deep, but you can catch it only while its hunt is active. The reported method is to use a Harpoon Gun: hit its head to draw it out, follow it into open water, then land another head shot and finish the harpoon minigame. The listed weather, time, season, and bait are preferences—not requirements.
Where to find Monstrous Cusk
Look for Monstrous Cusk at Gloomy Crevice, a green-lit area within The Deep. Reaching the location is not enough: a Monstrous Cusk Hunt must be active in your server. The location and mechanics below are reported by a secondary guide updated September 21, 2026, not confirmed official game documentation. (NerdsChalk’s Monstrous Cusk guide)
How the hunt reportedly appears
The guide says hunts spawn naturally through Disturbance at a listed threshold of 1,000 Risk. It suggests activating an Eclipse Totem and fishing in Gloomy Crevice with a high-disturbance rod to improve the chance of a huntfish spawn; neither step guarantees Monstrous Cusk. Catching Faceless Cusk in the area is also reported to contribute to awakening it.
The same guide reports one Monstrous Cusk per server and one active hunt at a time. A hunt reportedly lasts 10 minutes or ends when the fish is caught. Any player can make the initial shot or a later head shot, so the encounter is not limited to whoever triggered it. These are update-sensitive claims from a secondary guide.

Requirements versus preferences
The reported essential conditions are an active Monstrous Cusk Hunt and a Harpoon Gun for the catch. Weather, time, season, and bait are listed as preferences, not prerequisites. Casting a fishing rod and waiting will not complete the catch.

How to complete the Monstrous Cusk harpoon catch
- Equip a Harpoon Gun and aim for the head. Keep firing at the head to draw the fish out of Gloomy Crevice. The guide says body or flank hits will not hook it.
- Follow it into open water. Stay with Monstrous Cusk as it swims out into The Deep.
- Get above its head at a safe distance. Position yourself over its head without moving so close that you lose HP.
- Shoot the head again. A successful head shot reportedly hooks the fish and starts the harpoon minigame.
- Pull on valid targets. Click the white rings marked “PULL!” as the reticle crosses them. Missing valid pulses slows progress and may break the line.
- Keep going until the bar fills. The catch is complete when the progress bar fills and the catch banner appears. If the fish escapes, find it and try another head shot.
Minigame hazards
The guide warns that a dark pull button can appear; clicking it reportedly has a 30% chance to appear and removes 25% of current progress if clicked. Purple and red rings are traps; purple traps reduce pull power, and a trap can overlap a valid target. These precise percentages and behaviors are secondary-guide claims rather than independently verified official statistics, so rely on the visible target prompts and avoid clicking trap indicators.

Reported catch rewards and drop

It also gives one observed weight of 10,123.9 kg, explicitly as an individual result—not a minimum, average, or guaranteed weight. Monstrous Cusk Tooth is reported as a rare drop used to craft the Cusk Purger rod; catching the fish does not guarantee the tooth.
Because Fisch mechanics can change, check the active encounter and on-screen minigame prompts if these reported details differ in your server.
