If your AirPods pause below 100%, turn off the battery optimization for your model. On supported AirPods, Optimized Battery Charging can delay the final charge; AirPods Pro 3 also have Optimized Charge Limit. Wear the AirPods, connect them to your iPhone or iPad, then open Settings, tap the AirPods’ name, and tap Battery to find the relevant control. Apple documents ways to allow a full charge, not a guarantee that every charging session will reach precisely 100% by a particular time.
Which AirPods setting should you change?
The control depends on the model. Apple says Optimized Battery Charging is available for AirPods Pro and AirPods 3 or later. AirPods Pro 3 have an additional adaptive control, Optimized Charge Limit. Use the setting shown for your AirPods; Optimized Charge Limit is not a universal control across AirPods models.

- Wear your AirPods and make sure they are connected to your iPhone or iPad.
- Open Settings.
- Tap the name of your AirPods near the top of Settings.
- Tap Battery.
- Turn off Optimized Battery Charging.
Apple says this feature is on by default when you set up the AirPods or update to iOS or iPadOS 15 or later. If the control is not shown, confirm your model and software version; this setting is not documented for every AirPods model.
Allow a full charge on AirPods Pro 3
AirPods Pro 3 have Optimized Charge Limit in addition to Optimized Battery Charging. To disable the adaptive limit:

- Wear the AirPods Pro 3 and connect them to your iPhone or iPad.
- Open Settings, tap the AirPods’ name, then tap Battery.
- Turn off Optimized Charge Limit. Apple says you can turn it off entirely or just for a day.
Apple’s AirPods guide also documents a temporary route: open the case with the AirPods inside while their battery status is displayed, then choose “Charge to Full Now.” The option is useful when you want to allow a full charge without changing the optimization setting persistently.
Why AirPods may not charge fully right away
Optimized Battery Charging learns your daily charging routine and can wait to finish charging until shortly before you are expected to use the AirPods. Apple says the aim is to reduce wear by limiting the time the AirPods remain fully charged. On AirPods Pro 3, Optimized Charge Limit adapts the charging ceiling with the stated goal of preserving battery lifespan over time.

These controls let you permit full charging; they do not promise that every case, charging accessory, battery condition, or individual charging session will show exactly 100% at a particular time. Apple’s guidance provides no quantified battery-life improvement or guaranteed charging time.

- Check the model: Optimized Battery Charging is documented for AirPods Pro and AirPods 3 or later; Optimized Charge Limit is specific to AirPods Pro 3.
- Connect before looking: Wear the AirPods and connect them to the iPhone or iPad, then check Settings under the AirPods’ name.
- Check software: Apple says the relevant optimization features are enabled by default after setup or updates to iOS or iPadOS 15 or later for Optimized Battery Charging, and iOS or iPadOS 26 or later for Optimized Charge Limit.
- Look for the temporary option in the right view: “Charge to Full Now” is documented for AirPods Pro 3 when the case is opened with the AirPods inside and battery status displayed.
