Hipergate is a browser-based Java/JSP business application suite that includes CRM features such as company and individual records, opportunities, and distribution lists. It also extends into project management, customer service, collaboration, content management, email marketing, and other groupware functions. The latest release listed in the SourceForge archive is version 7.0.0, dated April 19, 2013, so organizations should verify present-day maintenance, security, and compatibility before considering it for live business data.

What is Hipergate?

Hipergate is described in its archived project documentation as an open-source, web-based application suite. Users access it through a browser; the historical overview says client computers do not need additional software. The same overview describes multi-company capability and an ASP-style arrangement for serving multiple customers. Those are historical product descriptions, not verified instructions for deploying Hipergate on current systems.

The project listing identifies the implementation as Java and JSP. It reports an Affero GNU Public License, but that project metadata is not a substitute for checking the license file in the particular release you plan to use.

What can Hipergate do?

Hipergate’s scope is broader than a conventional contact database. Archived descriptions and historical screenshots show a collection of business and collaboration tools.

CRM and sales

  • Manage records for companies and individuals.
  • Track sales opportunities.
  • Maintain distribution lists.
  • Support sales automation and customer service workflows.

Projects and collaboration

  • Organize projects, tasks, and incidences.
  • Use collaborative tools, forums, file sharing, calendar, and webmail features described in the archived product materials.

Other business functions

  • Work with content management, content production, and a corporate library.
  • Support email marketing and intranet functions.
  • The historical navigation also included a shop and configuration area.

These examples reflect the capabilities documented for earlier versions, including screenshots from version 2.1; they should not be treated as confirmation that every feature is present, secure, or operational in a current deployment.

Release history and support status

SourceForge’s files archive lists Hipergate 7.0.0 as the latest release, dated April 19, 2013. The project overview reports a last update of May 28, 2013. These dates establish what those archive pages list; they do not prove that no later fork or off-site successor exists, nor do they establish whether the project is currently maintained.

The SourceForge support page directs users to contact the project administrators and links to the historic hipergate.org homepage. That listing does not verify that administrators currently respond or that a commercial support agreement is available.

Database and deployment compatibility

The project listing names Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL as database environments. It does not establish compatibility with current releases of those databases, supported Java versions, a servlet container, deployment settings, or a maintained compatibility matrix. Do not assume that an old installation package will run safely on a modern production stack simply because a database family is named in the listing.

Before attempting deployment, confirm the requirements for the exact release and environment, then test installation, authentication, data handling, backups, and integrations in an isolated environment. If those requirements cannot be established, treat that as a material deployment risk rather than inferring compatibility.

Is Hipergate suitable for a business today?

The available archive records are not enough to establish that Hipergate is suitable for a live CRM deployment today. Its breadth may be relevant to organizations investigating legacy systems, but the most recent listed release dates to 2013, and the sources do not verify current security maintenance, support, or runtime compatibility.

Before placing customer or business information in it, assess these points:

  • Security maintenance: Determine whether the exact version receives security fixes and review its known vulnerabilities. The cited archive does not establish its current security status.
  • Runtime compatibility: Confirm supported Java, servlet container, and database versions for the release you intend to run. A list of database products alone is not a current compatibility guarantee.
  • Operational expertise: Identify people who can deploy, secure, monitor, back up, and troubleshoot the application, and verify that help is actually available.
  • Exit plan: Estimate the effort to export records and move to a supported CRM if maintenance or expertise becomes unavailable.
  • License obligations: Review the license included with the exact distribution; seek legal advice if its obligations affect your intended deployment.

If you cannot validate security, compatibility, and a sustainable support path, avoid using the software with live customer data. A test installation for evaluation or legacy-data recovery is a different risk decision from adopting it as an actively supported business system.

What is established—and what is not

Historical project materials establish that Hipergate was presented as a Java/JSP, browser-based suite with CRM and groupware capabilities, and that SourceForge lists version 7.0.0 dated April 19, 2013. They do not establish present-day maintenance, a successor project, current security condition, compatibility with maintained runtime and database versions, or active vendor support. Treat those questions as unresolved until verified for the specific distribution and deployment you are considering.
