Its strongest appeal is capturing or handling phone-connected tasks without holding your phone; its main trade-offs are reliance on the Meta AI app, limits on AI availability by country and language, and fit and lens choices that vary by configuration. Oakley’s battery and camera figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance test results.
What Oakley Meta HSTN does
HSTN is a pair of smart sunglasses with a camera, two open-ear speakers, a five-microphone array, voice and touch controls, and access to Meta AI. Oakley also advertises calls, messaging and media control. These functions make the glasses a potential convenience when reaching for a phone is awkward, but they do not make the phone or companion app unnecessary.
Oakley lists minimum compatibility of iOS 14.4 or Android 10, along with Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi‑Fi 6E. Check the current product listing and app availability for your phone and location before buying. Oakley says the Meta AI app is required to support the glasses experience, and notes that some AI features are available only in select countries and languages. Oakley’s U.S. HSTN listing and alternate configuration listing provide the manufacturer’s details.
Oakley Meta HSTN pros
Hands-free point-of-view capture
Oakley specifies a 12 MP camera with voice and touch capture controls. This setup can be useful for documenting a moment when holding a phone would be inconvenient. The listed acquisition resolution is 3024 × 4032 pixels for photos and up to 2203 × 2938 pixels at 30 fps for video. Those are specifications, not a finding about the final image quality or how footage looks in motion.

Audio and controls built into the frame
The glasses have two custom-built open-ear speakers and a custom five-microphone array, according to Oakley. Voice or touch controls are intended to support calls, messaging and media control. Open-ear audio means the design does not cover the ears with headphones, but the available manufacturer information does not establish sound quality, call clarity or how audible playback is to people nearby.
Storage and an included charging case
Oakley lists 32 GB of flash storage and estimates capacity at more than 500 photos or more than 100 videos of 30 seconds each. Each pair includes a charging case, cleaning cloth and user guide. The case is part of the package rather than an accessory you need to source separately. Oakley’s product details page lists the included items and fit information.

Choice of lens configurations
HSTN listings include different lens options, including standard, Prizm, polarized and Transitions lenses. The right choice depends on intended light conditions and personal preferences; configurations should not be treated as identical just because they share the HSTN name. Compare lens type, frame color, fit and price on the exact listing you plan to buy.
Oakley Meta HSTN cons and trade-offs
The experience depends on the Meta AI app and feature availability
The app is required to support the glasses experience. Some Meta AI functions are also limited to selected countries and languages, so advertised AI features may not be available to every buyer. Confirm app access, phone compatibility and local feature availability before purchase rather than assuming the full feature set works everywhere.

Battery figures are manufacturer claims
Oakley lists up to eight hours of rechargeable use on a single charge. It says the case can provide up to 48 hours of charging on the go and takes 3.5 hours to fully charge over USB-C; a USB-C cable is not included. These are Oakley’s stated figures, not independently measured runtime results. Your practical use may differ with workload, and the available evidence does not establish battery behavior for a particular pattern of recording, calls or AI use.
Price and lens choice vary by configuration
Oakley’s U.S. listings accessed in 2026 showed a black frame with Prizm Dark Golf lenses at $399 and a black frame with Prizm Black Polarized lenses at $449. Prices can change, and these examples do not establish a universal HSTN price. Check the price and exact lens configuration on the current regional listing before ordering.

Fit is personal
One Oakley listing describes the fit as wide/high bridge and gives dimensions of 51 mm lens width, 22 mm bridge width and 145 mm temple length. These measurements describe that listing, not a guarantee that the glasses will fit every face. Review Oakley’s current fit guide and try the frame in person if possible. The product details page is the cited source for those dimensions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the published specifications cannot tell you
The available product information is from Oakley, not an independent test. It does not establish real-world image quality, stabilization, audio leakage, long-wear comfort, durability or battery life under a defined workload. Treat those as open questions rather than proven strengths or defects, and seek a return policy that gives you room to assess fit and everyday performance.
Quick Recap
Who should consider Oakley Meta HSTN?
- Consider it if hands-free first-person capture and open-ear audio in a sunglass frame fit your routine, and your phone, app access and location support the features you want.
- Compare carefully if lens type, bridge fit or price is decisive; HSTN configurations differ, so inspect the exact variant rather than relying on the product family name.
- Look elsewhere or wait to try it if you need independently verified camera, audio or battery performance, or cannot use the required app and regional features.
