There is no verified evidence in the sources cited here that GPT-4’s internal technical details were leaked. OpenAI’s 2023 technical report says it withheld key specifications, while a July 2023 account of alleged details explicitly labels them unverified. The distinction matters: a company’s decision not to disclose information is not proof that someone else obtained or leaked it.
What OpenAI has disclosed about GPT-4
OpenAI described GPT-4 as a large-scale multimodal model that accepts image and text inputs and produces text outputs in its GPT-4 Technical Report (2023). The report does not provide a complete technical blueprint.
OpenAI says it omits further details about GPT-4’s architecture, model size, hardware, and training compute because of “the competitive landscape and the safety implications of large-scale models like GPT-4.” That statement documents nondisclosure; it does not establish that the missing information was later leaked.
What the alleged leak claims—and what is verified
A July 23, 2023 account titled “GPT-4 architecture leaked: what it means for AI” discusses alleged parameter counts, a mixture-of-experts design, training data, and cost. Its description calls the claims unverified. It is evidence that these allegations circulated, not independent confirmation that they are true or that they came from an authentic leak: Dr Waku’s account (July 23, 2023).

The sources cited here do not provide authenticated leaked documents, independent technical validation, or an identifiable original leaker whose evidence can be inspected. Repeating a figure in another post would not, by itself, corroborate it.
| Claim | What the cited sources establish |
|---|---|
| GPT-4’s architecture or number of experts | Not disclosed in OpenAI’s technical report; the circulating architecture allegation is unverified. |
| Parameter, layer, or training-token counts | Not established by the cited primary sources; rumor-derived figures should not be treated as facts. |
| Hardware, GPU counts, or training cost | Not disclosed in the report; alleged figures are not independently verified in the cited material. |
| GPT-4’s training-data inventory | No GPT-4-specific inventory is established here. OpenAI’s general explanation describes broad information sources, not a model-specific dataset list. |
What is known about GPT-4’s training data
OpenAI’s Help Center article, “How ChatGPT and our foundation models are developed”, describes broad categories of information used in developing models: publicly available internet information, information accessed through third-party partnerships, and information provided or generated by users, human trainers, and researchers. It does not publish a GPT-4-specific inventory, so it cannot substantiate a detailed claim about GPT-4’s exact training data.
How to assess a future “leak” claim
A credible technical leak should be judged on evidence, not on how specific or widely repeated its numbers sound. Look for:
- Direct disclosure: Does OpenAI publish or confirm the detail?
- Inspectable evidence: Are the alleged documents available in a form that can be authenticated, rather than summarized without showing their origin?
- Independent validation: Have technically qualified, independent sources examined the evidence and reached the same conclusion?
- Traceable sourcing: Is there an identifiable source with a clear basis for knowing the information, rather than an unsupported attribution?
Until those standards are met, specific counts for parameters, experts, layers, tokens, GPUs, or training costs should be presented only as unverified allegations—or left out.

Does the claim change how people can use GPT-4?
Not on the evidence above. OpenAI’s March 14, 2023 launch announcement described access through ChatGPT and its API at that time: OpenAI’s GPT-4 announcement. That is a dated launch-era description, not a statement of current availability or access terms. The alleged architecture details do not establish a change to the service, nor do they provide a verified basis for making one.
