Lenovo showed two very different laptops at CES 2026: the ThinkPad Rollable XD, a vertically expanding-screen concept with no set full-release plan, and the ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist, a motorized-hinge laptop Lenovo reportedly said was moving into mass production. The January reports establish neither a retail release date nor a price or current availability for the ThinkBook.
How the two Lenovo laptops differ
| Model | What it does | Status reported at CES 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| ThinkPad Rollable XD | Extends its screen vertically; part of the lid also serves as an outward-facing display. | ITPro described it as a concept with no set plan for full release. ITPro, January 7, 2026 |
| ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist | Uses a motorized rotating hinge, face tracking and reported voice and knock controls. | ITPro attributed a move into mass production to Lenovo; The Guardian also described it as progressing from concept to product. Neither report establishes retail availability. ITPro, January 7, 2026; The Guardian, January 9, 2026 |
What the ThinkPad Rollable XD concept can do
The Rollable XD’s screen grows upward from the main display, while a section on the outside of the lid works as a second display. ITPro reported that a tap at the top followed by a swipe from the right-hand corner extends the screen; repeating the gesture retracts it. The publication observed an extension to full height in about 30 seconds and reported a mirror mode for controlling the display from the opposite side. These are reported demonstrations, not durability or long-term-use results.
Gadget reported a screen that expands from 13.3 inches to close to 16 inches, with Lenovo claiming more than 50% additional screen area without increasing the laptop’s carried footprint. It also described a transparent Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 cover over the roll mechanism, leaving some internal components visible. These are concept specifications and claims reported by the publication, not independently verified production specifications. Gadget, January 12, 2026
As of ITPro’s January 7 report, Lenovo had no set plan for a full release of the ThinkPad Rollable XD. It should be understood as a concept demonstration, not a laptop confirmed for sale.

How the ThinkBook Plus Gen 7 Auto Twist works
The Auto Twist takes a different approach: rather than unrolling a display, it uses a dual-rotation hinge and face tracking to turn the screen toward the user. ITPro reported voice commands for closing the lid and rotating the display into tablet mode or back into laptop mode; knocking on the lid can open it. These are reported controls, not a complete list of supported commands.
ITPro attributed the mass-production statement to Lenovo, and The Guardian described the Auto Twist as moving from concept to an actual product. Those January 2026 reports indicate production intent, but do not confirm that the laptop is shipping or available in any particular country. They provide no established price, release date or retail stock information. ITPro, January 7, 2026; The Guardian, January 9, 2026

Lenovo’s other rollable concept is a separate device
The Legion Pro Rollable is a gaming-oriented concept, not another name for the ThinkPad Rollable XD. The Guardian reported that its display expands horizontally from 16 inches to 24 inches, whereas the ThinkPad concept’s screen extends vertically. The Guardian, January 9, 2026

The CES reports distinguish a rollable-screen experiment from a product Lenovo reportedly intended to mass-produce. They do not establish what is shipping as of October 4, 2026. Anyone looking for the Auto Twist should check Lenovo or regional retailers for current listings; the January coverage alone is not evidence of a live listing or a specific market launch.
