Its documented strengths include resource leveling, constraints, alternative scenarios, cost modeling, tracking, and flexible reports. The trade-off is its workflow: it is designed to work without a graphical user interface, using a shell, plain-text editor, and browser rather than visual-first project editing.
What is TaskJuggler project management software?
TaskJuggler models a project through tasks, resources, accounts, and constraints. You describe the plan in structured project files; its scheduler then calculates a schedule and assigns resources. The project describes itself as more than a tool for drawing Gantt charts, although it can produce Gantt-style views and other reports. These are capabilities documented by the project, not results of independent product testing.
That approach is most relevant when a project needs explicit scheduling rules, resource planning, or several versions of a plan. It is less suited to someone whose main priority is to create and rearrange tasks through a visual interface.
How does TaskJuggler schedule resources?
You define tasks, people or other resources, working calendars, and project rules in text. TaskJuggler’s scheduler uses those inputs to calculate dates and resource assignments. Its documented planning features include:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Resource leveling and conflict resolution: the project says the scheduler can resolve task conflicts and balance resource assignments.
- Constraints and scenarios: model scheduling constraints and maintain multiple planning scenarios for alternatives.
- Working-time rules: configure working hours, leave, shift work, and time zones.
- Costs and accounts: track task and resource costs, accounts, and profit-and-loss planning.
- Tracking: use status and time sheets, to-do lists, and dashboards to follow project progress.
The official feature list also includes project combinations, filtering, a central resource-allocation database, and report generation. Whether a particular workflow is straightforward to configure depends on the project model; the feature list does not establish the effort required for every use case.
Does TaskJuggler have a GUI?
TaskJuggler’s documented workflow does not require a graphical user interface for project planning. The project repository says, “A command shell, a plain text editor (no word processor!), and a web browser is all you need for your work.” In practice, users edit structured text, run TaskJuggler from a shell, and view generated reports in a browser.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
It can generate Gantt-style outputs, but that is different from providing a visual-first editor for building a plan. Teams that expect drag-and-drop scheduling or a shared visual workspace should weigh that distinction before adopting it.
What reports and integrations does TaskJuggler provide?
The project documents report output in HTML, CSV, and iCalendar formats, along with a built-in web server for reports. Its feature list also names export to Microsoft Project and Computer Associates Clarity. Those are documented project capabilities; current interoperability and the setup needed to publish or share reports have not been independently tested.

Who should consider TaskJuggler?
TaskJuggler is worth considering when a team is comfortable expressing a project plan as structured text and needs constraint-aware scheduling, resource leveling, alternative scenarios, or cost and accounting models. The project’s manual says it has been used for projects with hundreds of resources and thousands of tasks. That is the manual’s qualitative claim, not an independently verified benchmark.
A visual-first tool may be a better fit when most users need to edit plans through a GUI or collaborate in a shared visual workspace. Before committing, compare the time required to learn the text-based workflow with the value of its planning controls and report formats, and check that its current runtime and dependencies fit your environment.
