Samsung’s instructions and display controls can vary by model, so check your unit’s manual if the filter or remote differs from the general steps below.
What CF means
Samsung support guidance identifies CF as a reminder that the indoor air filter needs cleaning—not, by itself, a diagnosis that a heat-pump component has failed. Samsung’s code displays and controls vary across models, and the cited guidance concerns Samsung air conditioners and indoor-unit displays; confirm the instructions for your particular heat-pump model.
How to clean the filter and clear CF
- Check the model manual. Follow its instructions for accessing and removing the indoor filter, and confirm whether that filter can be washed.
- Remove dust gently. Samsung recommends a soft brush or vacuum. Avoid force and hard brushes.
- Wash only if the manual permits it. Samsung Saudi Arabia advises soaking the filter in water with mild detergent for 30 minutes, rinsing it, and air-drying it in a ventilated place away from direct sunlight. This is regional general guidance; use your model’s manual if its filter-care directions differ.
- Reinstall the fully dry filter. Do not put a damp filter back into the unit.
- Reset the reminder. In the cited Samsung remote procedure, with the unit operating, select Options → Filter Reset → SET. If your remote has no Options control or the menu differs, use the sequence in your model manual.
If CF remains after cleaning and resetting, note the full model number and displayed code, then consult Samsung support for that model. The general CF guidance does not establish what a persistent display means for every unit.
How often to clean the filter
Samsung Mexico’s indoor-unit code guide, updated September 7, 2023, recommends cleaning every two weeks or when CF appears. Treat that as regional manufacturer guidance, not a universal interval for every Samsung model or market. Follow the maintenance schedule in your product manual.

CF versus dF
Do not confuse CF with dF. Samsung Saudi Arabia’s regional code guide describes dF as an automatic defrost process during heating; CF is the filter-cleaning reminder. Their meanings are distinct, and the code conventions may not be identical across all Samsung heat-pump products.
