No. Grand Theft Auto IV has no official PlayStation 2 edition, so a PS2 cannot play a supported copy of the game. Rockstar’s platform listing names PC, PS3 and Xbox One, while Take-Two’s original release announcement names PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360—not PS2.
Why GTA 4 is not a PS2 game
The official release records do not include a PS2 version. Take-Two announced that Grand Theft Auto IV, developed by Rockstar North, would be available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a worldwide store date of April 29, 2008. Rockstar’s current game listing also includes PC and Xbox One, but not PS2. Take-Two’s announcement and Rockstar’s platform listing establish the supported release platforms.

This answers the practical compatibility question: there is no official GTA 4 disc or edition for PlayStation 2. The release sources do not document a developer explanation for why a PS2 port was not made, so claims about particular PS2 memory, processor, graphics, or storage limits would go beyond what they establish.

PC requirements are not evidence of PS2 compatibility
Rockstar’s PC minimum requirements, published by Rockstar Games Customer Support on April 30, 2024, are Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 at 2.40 GHz, 2 GB of memory, a 512 MB NVIDIA 8600 or 512 MB ATI 3870 graphics card, and 22 GB of hard-drive space. These specifications apply to the PC version; they do not, by themselves, prove which specific hardware limitation would have prevented a PS2 port. Choosing the right version
- If you own a PS2 only, there is no official GTA 4 edition you can play on it.
- If you want a PlayStation version, look for the PS3 edition and make sure you have a compatible PlayStation 3.
- If you already have a suitable PC, Rockstar’s PC Complete Edition is another official option.
- For the original console versions, the supported platforms were PS3 and Xbox 360.
