If your Fire TV home screen is not working after you installed or changed a launcher, restart the device first. If Settings still opens, you can also troubleshoot an identifiable app and check for a system update. Amazon’s public support instructions do not document one supported procedure for reverting every third-party launcher, so avoid guessing which system app to clear or disable.
First, identify what is not working
A Fire TV stuck on a launcher is different from a black screen or a remote that will not respond. Check which description fits before changing settings:

Amazon’s blank-screen guidance recommends checking the TV input, reconnecting HDMI, and trying another HDMI cable or hub if needed. For a remote fault, Amazon’s Fire TV Smart TV troubleshooting suggests AAA alkaline batteries and the Fire TV app.
How do I get back to the Amazon home screen?
1. Restart the Fire TV
If Settings is reachable, use its restart option. Amazon’s app troubleshooting instructions also recommend disconnecting the power adapter for one minute and reconnecting it when an app crashes, will not open, or stops responding.

For an unresponsive Fire TV Smart TV, Amazon documents holding Play/Pause and Select together for 3–5 seconds, or unplugging the TV’s power cord for at least 30 seconds before reconnecting it. These are Smart TV instructions; do not assume the button combination applies to a Fire TV Stick or Cube.
2. Clear data or cache only for an app you can identify
If Settings works and you know which app is causing the problem, open Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications, select that app, and choose Clear Cache. If needed, choose Clear Data as well. Amazon says this resets the app without deleting it; clearing data may also remove that app’s local settings or state. Do not select or clear an Amazon system component based on a guessed package name. Amazon’s general instructions do not identify a third-party launcher’s package or say which system component should be changed to restore the default home screen. Amazon also notes that a Fire TV with low storage may automatically clear unused app cache when an app has not been used for more than 30 days; that background behavior is not a launcher-recovery method.
3. Check for a Fire TV software update
Open Settings > My Fire TV or Settings > Device & Software > About > Check for System Update, depending on the device and software interface. Amazon lists outdated software as a possible cause of app problems. An update is a general troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix for a third-party launcher.

When should you factory reset?
Use a factory reset only after less disruptive recovery steps fail. It erases the device’s configuration, so you will need to complete setup and account configuration again. Amazon’s general Fire TV home-screen guidance points to reset options in device settings.
Amazon’s published remote-button reset sequence is specifically for Fire TV Smart TVs: hold Back and Right together for 10 seconds, then choose the on-screen option to continue. That Smart TV article also describes a recovery-mode route if the remote reset is unavailable. Confirm the procedure for your exact model before proceeding; do not apply the Smart TV sequence to every Stick or Cube.

If Home still opens the broken launcher
Amazon’s reviewed support material does not document a universal, supported way to revert a third-party launcher or explain how launcher-remapping utilities behave across Fire TV models and Fire OS versions. If Home continues to intercept navigation, contact Amazon Fire TV support for model-specific guidance, especially if you cannot reach Settings.
Have the exact Fire TV model and software version ready. Tell support whether Settings is accessible and what happens when you press Home. Avoid unofficial launcher tools, package-disabling steps, or other community workarounds as though they were Amazon-supported repairs.

Choose the recovery path that matches the symptom

Deregistering the device is not a substitute for restoring the launcher. Amazon says deregistration removes the device from your account and disconnects access to digital content and Amazon services until it is registered again. Do not use it as a routine launcher fix.
