HP’s Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen (part 3J122AA) is a candidate for some Spectre x360 laptops, but “Spectre x360” alone does not confirm compatibility. Match your laptop’s full product number to HP’s current regional compatibility listing before buying. HP Canada names specific configurations rather than promising support for every generation or regional model.
How to check whether a pen works with your Spectre x360
- Find the laptop’s full product number. Use the number for your exact configuration, not just the Spectre x360 family name or a broad series such as 14-inch or 16-inch.
- Check HP’s compatibility list for the pen. HP Canada lists the Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen (3J122AA) for particular Spectre x360 configurations. Confirm that your exact product number is included on HP’s current page: HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen.
- Use the page for your region. The cited compatibility page is HP Canada’s. If you bought the laptop elsewhere, check the corresponding HP regional listing or contact HP with the complete product number.
HP describes the 3J122AA as a lightweight digital pen for use with Spectre and Envy x360 laptops, and specifies MPP 2.0 as the minimum system requirement. That description does not establish compatibility with every laptop carrying the Spectre x360 name; rely on the configuration list, not the family-level wording.
HP Canada’s listed examples include configurations in the 15-eb, 14-ea, 13-aw, 16-f, 16-aa, 14-eu, and 14-ef families. Those are examples from that regional product page, not a complete worldwide list. A similar series name or nearby model number is not a substitute for matching the full product number.
Why “HP Active Pen” is not a precise compatibility answer
HP has sold pen products with different names and compatibility lists. The “Active Pen” label by itself does not show that a pen supports your Spectre x360. For example, HP’s Active Pen with Spare Tips specification lists the Spectre 12-a000 x2, not the Spectre x360 family. HP’s Active Pen with App Launch specification lists specified Elite x2, EliteBook x360, and Sprout products, but does not establish support for the Spectre x360 configurations discussed here.

These are distinct listings, not interchangeable names for one universal pen. Identify both the exact pen model and the laptop product number before purchasing or troubleshooting.
If the pen is not working
First confirm that the pen model is listed for your exact laptop configuration. HP’s troubleshooting guidance for the ProBook x360 11 G1/G2/G3 points to battery condition, pen-tip condition, and touchscreen pen-input configuration as possible checks. Because that guidance is for a different laptop family, treat it as general HP troubleshooting context and confirm the steps for the pen you own.

- Battery: If your particular pen uses a replaceable battery, check its condition and orientation against that pen’s instructions. HP’s cited ProBook guidance refers to an AAAA replacement battery; that does not establish that every HP pen uses one.
- Tip: Check whether the tip is loose or damaged. Use only a replacement tip confirmed for your exact pen model.
- Touchscreen input: Check that pen input is available and configured for the laptop. The precise settings and steps can vary by device and software version.
HP’s related ProBook x360 pen troubleshooting article provides that guidance, but it is not a Spectre x360-specific setup guide. If the checks do not resolve the issue, consult the support page for your laptop and pen or contact HP with both model numbers.
