1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBase31 is presented as a human-curated directory for finding small websites, useful tools, browser games and creative experiments. Instead of searching for a specific answer, visitors can browse hand-picked links—or choose “Surprise me” and see where the web takes them.
What Base31 is—and what it isn’t
In “I Built a Small Home for the Interesting Internet,” published on DEV Community under the Base31.org account, the author describes Base31 as a curated directory, not a search engine or app store. Entries are opened, checked, tagged and given descriptions before appearing in the directory.
That distinction shapes how it is meant to be used. Search works well when you know what you want; a directory like this is for browsing when you are open to finding something unexpected. The author’s contrast with algorithm-led recommendations and broad tool lists is a description of Base31’s intent, not proof that all search engines or directories work the same way.
How to explore the directory
The article describes several ways to browse: choose a category, sort the entries, heart projects, or use the “Surprise me” option. Those features turn the directory into a place to wander rather than a list you have to consult only when you already have a particular need. The live site’s current features and availability are not independently established here.

Examples of the sites you might find
The author’s examples show the intended range, from practical utilities to playful experiments. They are selections made for the article, not a ranking or a comprehensive list.
Projects associated with Base31
Named examples include App Screenshot, CompMails, Daily Wordle, GitHub Explorer, Image Compressor, Is It Down, Is It Taken, Password Generator, QR Code Generator, Share Files and Word of the Day.
Other sites selected by the author
The outside examples include Window Swap, Neal.fun, Radio Garden, A Soft Murmur, Pointer Pointer, Zoomquilt, The Useless Web, Music for Programming and Httpster. Together, they suggest the kind of variety the directory aims to surface: useful sites alongside playful, creative and unusual ones.
How submissions are described
The article invites people to submit small web projects, including static HTML, CSS and JavaScript sites, browser games, creative-coding experiments, free tools and interactive art. Its described process is to upload the project files, add a title, description and tags, then publish the project for visitors to browse and vote on. The author says community-made sites can be hosted for free; current availability and hosting terms have not been independently verified.

- Includes Raspberry Pi 5 with 2.4Ghz 64-bit quad-core CPU (8GB RAM)

- CanaKit Turbine Black Case for the Raspberry Pi 5

Why this kind of browsing appeals
Base31’s central pitch is that discovery can be enjoyable on its own. A search box helps when the destination is known; a curated directory and a surprise button make sense when the goal is simply to find something interesting. As the author puts it, “The web is still full of good stuff.” The opening line about the internet being “five websites wearing different fonts” is rhetoric, not a statistic.
