The Lenovo ThinkEdge SE350 V2 is a compact, half-width, short-depth server for putting compute and storage near retail, manufacturing, and other remote workloads. Its strongest case is a space-constrained edge deployment that needs server-class hardware and remote management; it is a poor fit if you need PCIe expansion or built-in Wi-Fi. The exact storage, networking, power, and environmental limits depend on the configuration, so the model name alone is not enough to specify a system.
What the SE350 V2 is—and who it suits
Lenovo positions the SE350 V2 as an edge server for locations where a conventional rack server may be too large or unsuitable. It uses a single Intel Xeon D-2700-family processor in a 1U-height, half-width, short-depth chassis. Lenovo also documents mounting options for non-rack locations and enclosures that can house two nodes. Lenovo ThinkEdge SE350 V2 overview
This is a purpose-built compact server, not a small general-purpose platform with room to add cards later. IT Pro’s review identifies the lack of PCIe slots as a key limitation, alongside the absence of Wi-Fi. If a deployment depends on add-in cards, plan around the onboard options or choose another platform.
SE350 V2 specifications and configuration choices
Processor and memory
The system supports one Xeon D-2700-family processor, with processor options up to 16 cores. Four DDR4 ECC registered DIMM slots support up to 256 GB. Although the DIMMs are rated at 3200 MHz, Lenovo says actual memory speed depends on the selected processor and may be up to 2933 MHz. Confirm supported processor and memory combinations for the exact build using Lenovo’s support information. Lenovo technical specifications

Storage: choose a drive-bay layout
The drive-bay choices are alternatives, not capacities to combine in one configuration. Lenovo specifies either up to four 7 mm 2.5-inch hot-swap SATA or NVMe drives, or up to two 15 mm 2.5-inch hot-swap NVMe drives. Up to two M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3x1 drives are available on the I/O module board for boot. Check the specific drive models against Lenovo’s compatibility information before ordering.
| Storage area | Documented configuration | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5-inch bays | Up to four 7 mm SATA or NVMe hot-swap drives, or up to two 15 mm NVMe hot-swap drives | These are different drive-cage configurations. |
| M.2 boot | Up to two 80 mm (2280) PCIe Gen3x1 drives | Located on the I/O module board; verify exact supported drives. |
Networking and RAID
The network I/O board is available with either four 1GbE RJ-45 ports or four SFP28 ports specified for 10/25GbE. Both options include two 2.5GbE RJ-45 ports, and a separate 1GbE RJ-45 port is designated for XClarity Controller management. Lenovo ties 25Gbps SFP28 operation to processors with at least 16 cores, so a four-port SFP28 selection does not by itself guarantee that link rate. Lenovo technical specifications
Lenovo lists software RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 overall, while its technical page specifically describes Intel VROC SATA RAID supporting RAID 0 and 1. IT Pro reported that NVMe RAID options in its 2024 review required a VROC key, with licensing distinctions between Standard and Premium. RAID support therefore depends on the storage type and licensing in the ordered configuration; confirm the current ordering details rather than relying on historical license terms.
Installation, power, and operating conditions
Mounting and enclosure options
Lenovo documents desktop use, single-node mounting, and 1U2N and 2U2N enclosures that can accommodate two nodes. Its materials also describe VESA, DIN-rail, wall, and ceiling mounting. The short-depth format may help where space is limited, but check the exact chassis, rail or enclosure depth, cable clearance, and power arrangement against the installation site. Power choices
Depending on model and configuration, the server can use a single 500W internal AC power source, up to two external 300W AC adapters, or direct 12–48V DC input. Lenovo gives mounting-specific temperature limits for the 300W adapter. Select power hardware together with the enclosure and site conditions, using documentation for the exact model rather than assuming every power option supports every installation.
Temperature limits are conditional
Lenovo lists these ambient operating ranges by ASHRAE class: H1, 5–25°C; A2, 10–35°C; A3, 5–40°C; and A4, 5–45°C. The ranges are subject to altitude derating. Lenovo also describes an extended 0–55°C range, but that is not an unconditional operating promise: it excludes AC adapters and NVMe performance may degrade in the extended range. Lenovo says to keep ambient temperature at or below 45°C with NVMe drives to avoid performance degradation, and at or below 40°C when using AC adapters. Lenovo environmental specifications
Remote management and serviceability
The SE350 V2 supports Lenovo XClarity Controller 2 (XCC) for service-processor monitoring and control, including remote keyboard, video, and mouse and remote-drive capabilities. Lenovo documents a front management port and USB-C management connector, as well as deployment and service features. The user guide says the system’s service label has a QR code linking to part-installation information, replacement videos, and error codes. Lenovo features and specifications Lenovo ThinkEdge SE350 V2 user guide
In IT Pro’s hands-on review, Dave Mitchell used XCC to inspect inventory and hardware, control power, and manage firmware, and described remote operations through XClarity Administrator. He also reported deploying Windows Server 2022 from a mapped ISO using the provisioning manager’s Effortless Install option in 30 minutes. That is the reviewer’s result on his test setup, not a deployment-time guarantee. The review distinguishes basic XCC functions from features requiring a Platinum upgrade.

What the independent review found
IT Pro published its review on 27 March 2024. The reviewer’s tested unit had an eight-core Xeon D-2733NT, 256 GB of memory, four 3.84 TB Micron U.3 NVMe drives, two M.2 2280 slots, SFP28 networking, and two external 300W power supplies. That is one review configuration, not a standard or entry-level specification. The review praised the compact chassis, processor and memory options, storage and network choices, and remote management; its principal drawbacks were no PCIe slots and no Wi-Fi. IT Pro Lenovo ThinkEdge SE350 V2 review
IT Pro cited an entry-level UK configure-to-order indication of about £5,900 at the time of publication. This is a dated, region-specific observation from March 2024, not a current quote. Current price, stock, regional availability, and product lifecycle need to be checked with Lenovo or a reseller.
Is the Lenovo ThinkEdge SE350 V2 worth considering?
It is worth considering when a site needs a compact, mountable server with selectable Ethernet, hot-swap storage choices, and remote operations, and the workload fits the selected Xeon D configuration. The decision hinges on the exact order: drive cage, network board, power option, temperature envelope, and management licensing all affect suitability. Its compactness comes with a firm expansion trade-off: IT Pro reports no PCIe slots, and the system has no Wi-Fi.
Quick Recap
- Confirm that the required workload fits the selected processor and memory configuration.
- Choose the 2.5-inch bay layout and verify the exact drive models.
- Match the network board to the required port type and speed, including the 16-core condition for 25Gbps SFP28.
- Validate the site’s ambient temperature, altitude, mounting, and power against the exact system configuration.
- Check current XCC, RAID, support-lifecycle, and component compatibility details before purchase.
