The Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 is a print-only photo inkjet for people who want borderless prints up to 13 × 19 inches without a large-format printer taking over a room. Its six individual inks, including red and gray, and rear specialty-media feed make it a better match for coated photo paper than for long runs of everyday documents. The compact stored dimensions help, but the printer needs considerably more depth when it is operating—and ink costs deserve attention before you buy.
What the XP-15000 does—and who it suits
The XP-15000 prints, but it does not scan or copy. That single-function design makes sense if your main goal is making larger photographs at home and you already have another way to digitize documents. It is less suitable as the only printer in a household that regularly needs scanning, copying, or fast stacks of plain-paper pages.
In the US, Epson lists borderless printing up to 13 × 19 inches and a 50-sheet rear specialty-media tray. Epson Europe describes the printer as supporting A3+ and lists two trays; specifications and naming can vary by market, so check the product page for your country before relying on a particular tray or size claim. Epson says the model is 30% smaller than its predecessor, a manufacturer comparison rather than an independent size measurement.
Photo printing, documents, and speed
Six inks for photos
The printer uses six individual cartridges. In addition to black, cyan, magenta, and yellow, it has red and gray inks. Epson presents the six-color system as a way to expand color range and support monochrome photography. The rear feed is intended for specialty media, which is useful when your print workflow involves photo paper rather than just ordinary office sheets.

IT Pro’s July 22, 2025 review describes the printer as accomplished on coated photo papers, while finding it comparatively disappointing for long plain-paper document jobs. That is the reviewer’s assessment, not a result from independent testing for this article. For a photo enthusiast or creator who prints selectively, the trade-off may be reasonable; for frequent document production, it is a poor match.
Rated speeds are not the same as review results
| Figure | Black | Color | Source and context |
|---|---|---|---|
| ISO print speed | 9.2 pages per minute | 9.0 pages per minute | Epson America product specifications, accessed 2026; manufacturer-rated figures. |
| Review test speed | 8 pages per minute | 5 pages per minute | IT Pro, July 22, 2025; that publication’s test results. |
These figures come from different sources and methods, so they should not be treated as a like-for-like speed comparison. Neither is a promise of how quickly a particular photo will print; image size, settings, and media affect the job.

What kind of paper can the Epson Expression Photo HD XP-15000 print on?
Epson positions the XP-15000 for photo output and documents a rear specialty-media feed. Epson Europe lists photo papers including A4 photo-quality inkjet paper and glossy paper, while the US listing specifies a maximum borderless photo size of 13 × 19 inches. Match paper size and finish to the printer’s supported settings and the documentation for your market; the available sources do not establish that every third-party stock or specialty material is supported.
For the intended use, choose coated photo media in a finish and size the printer supports. Plain paper can be used for documents, but IT Pro’s review indicates that long document jobs are not where this model shines. No paper stock was tested for this review, so there is no basis for ranking particular brands or claiming a specific print result.

Ink costs and cartridge compatibility
Six individual cartridges let you replace a color as it runs out, but they also mean that purchase price alone does not tell you the cost of ownership. Epson’s manual says cartridge yields vary with the images printed, settings, temperature, and usage pattern. Its listed ISO yields assume continuous printing in default mode; they should not be read as a photo-page estimate. Epson advises using an opened cartridge within six months for best results.
Cartridge numbers differ by region. For the US, Epson lists 312 or 312XL black, cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges, plus 314XL red and gray. Epson Europe lists 378 or 378XL for the first four colors, plus 478XL red and gray. Check the country-specific Epson listing and the printer’s existing cartridge labels before ordering; do not assume these codes are interchangeable.

- Epson printing system is designed to be used exclusively with Epson Genuine Cartridges. Use of non-genuine ink could cause damage not covered under the printer’s ltd. wnty.
- Professional photo quality
- Archival photos that last many years
- Detailed, high-contrast images and smooth, natural skin tones
- Compatible Printer: XP-15000
Epson states that the printer is designed for Epson cartridges and warns that third-party ink may not function properly or continuously. That warning is not proof that every third-party cartridge will fail, but it is a real compatibility and reliability consideration. Epson Europe’s six-color XL multipack listing gives yields of 200 pages gray, 500 black, and 830 color. Those are accessory-page figures, not a photo yield, and actual results depend on usage and test assumptions.
The manual identifies the maintenance box as part T3661; Epson Europe’s accessories page lists T366100. Confirm the exact part number for your market and listing before replacing it.

Size, setup, and connections
Epson’s US user guide lists the printer’s stored dimensions as 18.7 × 14.5 × 6.3 inches. It needs 30.9 inches of depth for printing, so a shelf that fits the stored machine may not leave enough room to operate it. The listed weight is 18.7 lb without ink cartridges, the power cord, or the CD/DVD tray. Plan for paper access and operating clearance rather than measuring only the printer body.
Epson US lists Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and mobile-device printing. Epson Europe names the iPrint and Creative Print apps and says they require a wireless connection. App availability and device support can change; check current downloads for your operating system before depending on an app-based workflow.
Should you buy the Epson XP-15000?
Consider it if you need borderless photographs larger than letter or A4, expect to use coated photo media, and value a relatively compact printer body. It also offers wired and wireless connectivity, duplex document printing, and a specialty-media feed, according to Epson’s product materials.
Look elsewhere if you need scanning or copying, routinely print substantial volumes of plain-paper documents, or prioritize low ongoing color-printing costs. IT Pro suggests tank-based printers as a category for frequent high-quality color printing; that is a general alternative direction, not a current model-to-model recommendation. Compare the upfront price with the cost and availability of region-correct ink for your own print volume before deciding.
