Zyxel’s Smart Sync feature synchronizes specified security policies, network objects and high-availability settings between those environments. That is a meaningful management option, but it does not establish that every setting or workflow is identical in both interfaces.
Can you manage the USG FLEX 700H locally and through the cloud?
Yes. Zyxel describes Nebula as its centralized cloud platform for provisioning, management and monitoring, while Smart Sync synchronizes selected information with the local interface. The three specified categories are security policies, network objects and high-availability (HA) settings. Zyxel calls this capability a way to “bridge cloud and on-premises environments”; that is the company’s description, not independent validation of every workflow.
In practical terms, the product is aimed at organizations that want central oversight through Nebula but also need a local administration path. The documented sync scope is specific: do not assume that all configuration, monitoring, or troubleshooting tasks are interchangeable between the two interfaces. Check the current user guide for the exact settings and workflow your team needs.

Zyxel’s USG FLEX 700H download library lists a V1.39 user guide dated July 30, 2026, and a handbook for uOS 1.39 dated September 8, 2026. Interface labels and behavior can change with firmware, so use documentation matching the installed release.

What setup and account requirements should you expect?
Standalone operation still requires registration. Zyxel support says the firewall must be registered to a Zyxel account before full activation and management, even when the intended deployment is standalone. Initial registration also requires internet connectivity to access the web interface, activate security services and receive firmware updates.
Zyxel describes three registration routes: during initial setup, by QR code through the Nebula mobile app, or manually in Nebula Control Center with the device’s serial number and MAC address. This is a relevant planning detail for organizations with restricted internet access or account policies: arrange the required connectivity and account process before deployment.

How fast is the 700H when security inspection is enabled?
Zyxel’s Nebula Cloud Networking Solution Guide lists the following performance figures for the USG FLEX 700H. These are vendor specifications, not independent benchmark results; the metrics describe different workloads and should not be treated as interchangeable.

Zyxel’s US store describes the US model, SKU USGFLEX700H-US, as a 15 Gbps firewall. That headline figure corresponds to the SPI firewall specification; it is not a substitute for the lower, separately named VPN, IPS or anti-malware rates. Zyxel warns that its theoretical performance data were obtained under particular test conditions, actual results can vary with software version, application and environment, and specifications may change without notice. Consult the latest datasheet for test methodology and confirm that its configuration matches the traffic and inspection features you plan to use.

What VPN scale and high availability does Zyxel specify?
The same Zyxel solution guide lists maximum concurrent VPN tunnel counts of 1,000 IPsec and 500 SSL, and recommends 300 site-to-site IPsec VPN tunnels. Maximum and recommended counts are different planning measures; the published maximum should not be read as a recommended deployment target for every topology.
Zyxel says HA is standard on H Series models 200H and above, including the 700H, and describes using two devices for a failover-ready arrangement. The exact deployment, licensing and configuration details should be checked against the current 700H datasheet and applicable license terms before purchase.

Which security features and bundle details matter?
Zyxel lists cloud sandboxing, anti-malware, intrusion prevention (IPS), DNS/IP/URL filtering, application control and web filtering among H Series security capabilities. Availability and the license required for a particular feature can depend on the configuration and purchase bundle; verify the current regional terms rather than assuming that every capability is included indefinitely.
For the US store offer described by Zyxel, Gold Security Pack is an option for advanced features, while the hardware-only configuration includes a complimentary one-year Entry Defense Pack. This is a regional offer and may change. Confirm the exact model, included license term, renewal cost and feature coverage for the seller and region where you plan to buy.

Who should consider the USG FLEX 700H?
The 700H is worth evaluating if your organization wants Nebula-based central administration while retaining a local interface and a documented synchronization path for selected policies, objects and HA settings. Whether it fits depends on more than the SPI headline: match the relevant inspected-throughput figure, VPN scale, HA design, port configuration and security-service licensing to your deployment.
- Map your expected traffic to the specific metric you need: VPN, IPS or anti-malware throughput, rather than SPI alone.
- Check port speeds and WAN/LAN configurability in the current datasheet; the figures covered here do not establish those details.
- Compare expected VPN tunnel counts with the stated maximum and recommended site-to-site figure.
- Confirm the two-device HA design, feature licenses and renewals required for your intended failover setup.
- Ensure your administrator’s preferred cloud/local workflow is covered by Smart Sync’s documented scope.
- Plan for Zyxel account registration and initial internet connectivity, including in standalone deployments.
Zyxel’s April 2025 launch announcement claimed 2.5 times the performance of the previous-generation USG FLEX Firewalls and introduced complete Nebula cloud management. Treat the performance comparison as a Zyxel claim, not an independent test result. The available specifications support a vendor-specification assessment, not a conclusion about real-world throughput, reliability, ease of use or comparative value.
For version-sensitive decisions, Zyxel’s UK download library listed firmware 1.39(ABZI.0)C0 dated July 27, 2026, and datasheet version 14 dated July 17, 2026, as of October 4, 2026. Check Zyxel’s current documentation and your region’s store before purchase because firmware, specifications, prices, inventory and bundles can change.
