The Lenovo ThinkServer TS150 is a configurable single-processor tower server, but it is now a withdrawn, legacy platform—not a current server launch. Lenovo’s documentation establishes its processor, memory, storage, and controller limits; it does not establish how fast a used unit performs, what it is worth today, or whether a particular machine is in good condition. Judge a TS150 by its exact configuration and condition, especially if you plan to use it for virtualization.
What kind of server is the ThinkServer TS150?
Lenovo described the TS150 as a one-processor server for tower use or 4U rack mounting on a shelf. The platform specification and product guide are from 2017, and Lenovo marks the guide as withdrawn. Its age and withdrawn status make it a used-platform purchase rather than a current product choice. Lenovo’s TS150 platform specification and Lenovo’s product guide document the design, not present-day availability or support status.
The guide lists configurations with Xeon E3-1200 v5 and v6 processors, Core i3 6100/6300 and 7100/7300 families, Pentium G4400/G4500/G4600 families, and the Celeron G3900 family. Listed Xeon v6 options reach up to four cores and 3.9 GHz; those are configuration ceilings, not a description of every TS150 or a performance test.
Lenovo lists dimensions of 375 × 175 × 431 mm and a maximum configured weight of 12.5 kg. These are manufacturer specifications, not measurements of a particular used unit.

How much memory can a ThinkServer TS150 take?
There are four DIMM sockets across two memory channels, and the system uses UDIMMs. Lenovo documents up to 64 GB with four 16 GB modules. The guide supports ECC UDIMMs worldwide and documents 2133 and 2400 MHz options. Memory speed also depends on the installed processor. Lenovo’s TS150 product guide includes the platform’s memory rules.
- Do not mix ECC and non-ECC memory; Lenovo does not support that combination.
- Mixing 2133 and 2400 MHz modules is allowed, but all modules run at the slower speed.
- Before buying a kit, check the CPU, existing DIMMs, module type, and supported speed. A generic desktop DDR4 kit is not guaranteed to be compatible.
Lenovo’s guide advises using ECC memory for business-critical or mission-critical applications. That is a manufacturer recommendation, not a guarantee of reliability or a substitute for backups.
What hard drives fit a Lenovo ThinkServer TS150?
Drive capacity and fit depend on the exact chassis configuration. Lenovo documented multiple internal, non-hot-swap SATA layouts, including combinations of 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch bays. Some configurations allow optical or backup-device bays to be converted. The guide also lists SATA SSDs and HDDs. Lenovo’s product guide documents the available layouts and conversion options.
Some 2.5-inch installations require a specific drive converter kit; Lenovo lists part number 4XF0G88934 for a 2.5-inch drive bay. Before ordering a drive or adapter, inspect the unit’s actual bay arrangement and confirm the required tray or conversion hardware. The specifications do not establish one universal drive capacity for every TS150 configuration.

Is the TS150 suitable for a virtualization server?
Check the storage controller before treating the TS150 as a hypervisor host. Lenovo lists onboard RAID 121i and an optional RAID 520i, but explicitly says RAID 121i is not supported by VMware vSphere (ESXi), Linux KVM, Xen, or Microsoft Hyper-V. Do not assume the onboard controller provides a supported RAID route for those hypervisors. Confirm the installed controller and the intended storage configuration against the hypervisor requirements. Lenovo’s product guide states the RAID 121i limitation.
What to check before buying a used TS150
Specifications alone cannot establish whether a particular used unit is a good buy. Ask for the precise configuration and evidence of condition, then assess it against your workload and asking price.

- New ThinkServer 67Y0120 Hard Drive feature the latest storage technology to offer a solution that is perfect for small and medium businesses that are space constrained but require a solution to manage
- This drive has enterprise class reliability and high capacity in a small form factor (2
- 5-inch) perfect for rack server solutions
- This new hard drive is compatible across the new ThinkServer platform that is based on the Intel Tylersburg platform
- Processor: Confirm the exact model, not just “Xeon” or “TS150.”
- Memory: Check capacity, ECC status, module count, and speed.
- Storage: Confirm bay size and count, non-hot-swap layout, included trays or converters, and installed controller.
- Expansion and power: Verify the installed expansion cards and included power supply meet your needs.
- Condition: Request a clear condition report and confirmation that the machine has been tested. No general reliability, noise, or power-use conclusion follows from Lenovo’s specifications.
- Total cost: Include any needed memory, drives, conversion hardware, or controller in the comparison with other used servers.
For another used tower server, compare exact CPU and workload, supported ECC memory, drive-bay type and hot-swap status, controller and hypervisor compatibility, expansion slots, included power supply, physical size, tested condition, and total asking price. Without a specific listing and condition evidence, there is no defensible current value judgment for the TS150.

The TS150’s documented strengths are configuration flexibility for its class: Lenovo listed several processor families, four UDIMM sockets supporting up to 64 GB, expansion options, and multiple SATA bay layouts. Its clearest buying risks are that it is a withdrawn platform, used units vary materially in configuration, drive installations can require conversion hardware, and onboard RAID 121i is unsuitable as a supported RAID path for the named hypervisors. Consider one only after verifying the exact unit and matching its controller and storage arrangement to your intended use.
