AlmaLinux 9 and 10 support NVIDIA’s open GPU kernel driver through separately installed packages, including signed kernel modules for Secure Boot. To set it up, enable AlmaLinux’s NVIDIA repositories with almalinux-release-nvidia-driver, install the driver packages, then reboot and verify that the modules loaded.
What AlmaLinux’s native NVIDIA support includes
In August 2025, AlmaLinux announced packages for NVIDIA’s open GPU kernel driver on AlmaLinux OS 9 and 10. “Native” means AlmaLinux provides repository configuration and packaged drivers; it does not mean the driver is built into a standard operating-system installation. You install the repository configuration and driver packages separately. AlmaLinux’s announcement and its current NVIDIA driver documentation describe the setup.
The kernel module is distributed as a signed kmod, so AlmaLinux says the packages support Secure Boot and do not require DKMS to compile the module during installation or updates. Repository configuration also enables AlmaLinux CRB and NVIDIA’s upstream CUDA repository, and installs EPEL. The nvidia-open package is an option if you want a more complete installation.
Check release and architecture compatibility
AlmaLinux’s current documentation lists AlmaLinux Kitten 10, AlmaLinux 10, and AlmaLinux 9. The documented architectures are x86_64—excluding AlmaLinux 10’s x86_64_v2 variants—and aarch64. AlmaLinux does not build or ship these drivers for AlmaLinux 8 through this package path and does not expect to support that release this way. Check your OS release, architecture, GPU model, and NVIDIA’s supported configurations before installing.

CUDA support and its limits
On March 9, 2026, AlmaLinux reported that NVIDIA CUDA 13.2 added official support for enterprise Linux-compatible distributions, including AlmaLinux. AlmaLinux also said an agreement allows it to distribute NVIDIA packages directly from its repositories. This is support within NVIDIA’s supported configurations—not a guarantee that every GPU model, release, or software combination is covered. Check NVIDIA’s configuration requirements for your hardware and workloads. AlmaLinux’s CUDA 13.2 update provides the project’s details.

If the module stops loading after a kernel update
A fixed AlmaLinux 9 compatibility issue illustrates why package and kernel versions can matter: on December 4, 2025, AlmaLinux reported that kernel 5.14.0-611.9.1.el9_7 and kmod-nvidia-open-580.105.08-2.el9 could leave the NVIDIA module unavailable after reboot. AlmaLinux said the issue was repaired in kmod-nvidia-open-580.105.08-3.el9. This was a specific incident, not evidence of a general failure rate. If a kernel update prevents the module from loading, check current AlmaLinux project updates and use the documented repository packages. AlmaLinux’s December 2025 announce archive contains the notice.
