There is no verified, apples-to-apples top 10 of fully equipped off-grid tiny houses in the available builder information. This editorial shortlist instead covers named models and configurable builders, making clear which systems are specified and which are options. “Off-grid” requires plans for electricity, water, and waste—not just solar panels—and the right setup depends on the site, climate, and local placement rules.
How to assess an off-grid tiny house
These candidates are selected for relevant off-grid features, clarity of published information, and the ability to distinguish a defined model from a configurable build. They are not ranked, independently tested, or all sold as complete off-grid packages. The reviewed sources do not establish enough detail for ten comparable, fully specified homes, so this list does not pad the count with ordinary tiny houses.
Before comparing models, check what is included versus optional, the stated power and water capacities, the toilet and wastewater plan, insulation and cold-weather provisions, and whether the home is on wheels or a foundation. Ask the builder for a current, written specification for the exact build and destination.
1. The Weston — The Tiny House Building Company
The Tiny House Building Company describes the Weston as an 18-foot trailer model with a 2,000-watt solar panel system and battery bank, plus a 46-gallon freshwater holding tank. Its listed equipment also includes a propane range, tankless water heater, dry-flush toilet, washer/dryer combo, and split heat/AC. The builder does not state the battery capacity or a runtime, so the solar figure alone cannot establish how long the home can operate without sun. See the builder’s Weston page.

2. Halcyon Lux — Fritz Tiny Homes
Fritz lists the Halcyon Lux at 33 ft × 8 ft 6 in × 13 ft 6 in and says it is certified as an RV to CSA Z240 RV in Canada and NFPA1192 RV in the United States. The builder describes spray-foam insulation and a ZIP/ZIP-R system. Solar and a fully off-grid package are available additions, not standard equipment according to the page. 3. Coppia custom and other THOWs — Off Grid Tiny Houses
Victoria-based Off Grid Tiny Houses describes its homes on wheels as VSB1-compliant and supplied with VINs. The builder cites double glazing, insulation in the walls, floor, and ceiling, and recessed gutters for rainwater catchment. Its page identifies a pictured home as “Coppia custom,” but does not publish a complete model specification there. The company also says its construction site runs on its own off-grid solar setup and reports more than seven years of family use of that system; this is the builder’s account, not independent verification. 4. Casa Tiny House models — Queensland, Australia
Casa names Flow, Driftway, Whisper, Harmony, Serenity, Sanctum, and Ember. Its FAQ says an off-grid build needs decisions about power, water catchment, toilet choice, and greywater disposal. Solar installation is arranged through an external company, while guttering is fitted on-site because of road-width restrictions. These are configurable model offerings; the page does not establish that each is sold with a complete off-grid system included. Read Casa’s model and off-grid information.
5. A&K Tiny Homes range — Canterbury, New Zealand
A&K advertises custom layouts, solar, appliances, “Off-Grid Ready” options, “Road Legal” builds, and delivery across New Zealand. The landing page does not give model-by-model power or water capacities. Treat this as a builder range, and request the exact system specification and the basis for any road-legality claim for the chosen build. See A&K Tiny Homes.

6. Tiny Homes NZ custom builds — New Zealand
Tiny Homes NZ describes bespoke homes for remote sites using solar, rainwater collection, and self-sufficient systems. The page offers useful guidance on design and New Zealand compliance, but does not identify a named model with published system capacities. 7. KYRAX off-grid-ready builds — Canada/United States-facing page
KYRAX describes three formats: a modular home on a foundation, a park model, and a home on wheels. It says solar, battery storage, water collection, and toilet choices are specified for the site and actual loads, but the page does not confirm standard capacities. 8. Tiny Custom House models — Mesa, Arizona
Tiny Custom House says its container and conventional-frame homes can be configured for off-grid use. Possible components include solar, battery storage, water tanks, composting toilets, and generator transfer switches. The page describes real floor plans the builder constructs, but does not tie a specific named model to a complete off-grid package. Ask for a model-specific equipment list and capacities. Being disconnected from utility power is only one part of living off-grid. Tiny Homes NZ describes a typical setup as solar paired with battery storage, water collection and filtration, and either a composting toilet or self-contained septic. Casa separately calls out power, water catchment, toilet selection, and greywater disposal. A credible proposal should explain all of these systems and how they work together for the intended site. - Electricity: Request panel wattage, battery capacity, expected loads, inverter details, and any backup-generation plan. A panel rating by itself does not tell you how much energy is available overnight or through cloudy weather.
- Water: Confirm the source, collection or delivery method, storage capacity, filtration, and any seasonal constraints.
- Toilet and wastewater: Establish whether the plan uses a composting or dry-flush toilet, septic, or another system, and how greywater is handled and approved.
- Heating and insulation: Check the envelope and heating equipment against the destination’s climate, rather than assuming a home suited to mild conditions will perform the same in winter.
Size systems for the site and the difficult season
Power needs depend on what the household runs and when; water and waste plans depend on site conditions and local rules. Tiny Homes NZ warns that winter days are shorter and sunlight less reliable, and advises sizing batteries and backup generation for darker months rather than an average or summer day. Its guidance is specific to its New Zealand context, but the practical point is important anywhere: ask the builder to explain the design assumptions for your location and expected use. Similarly, a 2,000-watt solar system does not by itself prove autonomy: the Weston page also mentions a battery bank but does not state its capacity or runtime. Get the battery’s usable capacity and the expected load profile before estimating how long the system can carry you between periods of good generation. The Weston specification.
Choose the legal format before choosing a floor plan
A home on wheels, a park model, and a house on a foundation can face different placement rules. KYRAX says format affects where a home may legally be placed. Tiny Homes NZ likewise notes that, in New Zealand, consent and separate water and wastewater requirements can depend on factors such as size, foundation or certified trailer chassis, the council district plan, and system design. Its page mentions a consent-related threshold of up to 60 m², but that figure is tied to stated criteria in New Zealand and should not be treated as a universal exemption or legal advice. Before paying a deposit, check the rules with the authority responsible for the land where the home will sit. Confirm permitted use, building or resource consent, water supply, wastewater disposal, access, and any restrictions tied to a trailer or RV classification. A builder’s certification or “road legal” description does not, on its own, establish that a particular site may host the home.
