Yes—Verizon says it uses wireless location and service-usage information, but that does not mean every business account is enrolled in every program. The rules depend on the account type, service, contract and program settings. In particular, Verizon excludes corporate and government accounts from the consumer and small-business populations described in its Business and Marketing Insights and Custom Experience FAQs, while separate business-processing and CPNI terms may still apply.
The distinctions below describe Verizon’s U.S. materials. Check the terms for the specific service and account before drawing conclusions about your business.
What Verizon says it collects and does with business information
Verizon’s U.S. business privacy hub is an overview, not a complete description of every product or program. It says Verizon collects information customers provide, information about use of its products and services and interactions, device and network-operation information—including wireless-device location—and information from other companies. It describes uses such as providing services, managing accounts and billing, developing products, personalization and marketing, as well as disclosures within Verizon, to service providers and in other specified circumstances.
Verizon’s business-specific U.S. Data Processing Activities page distinguishes information Verizon handles for its own administrative purposes from information it processes to provide a service to a business customer. For customer-relationship administration, Verizon says it acts as a business under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). For most services provided to business customers, it says it acts as a service provider under the CCPA or a processor under other privacy laws, following customer instructions.

The data involved depends on the service and role. Verizon lists possible business-role information such as call detail records, location information and IP addresses. Processor information may include IP addresses, call details, names, business email addresses and telephone numbers, along with other product-specific data. Verizon Connect may process geolocation data needed for telematics, and additional optional data elements may apply.
Verizon does not give one retention period for all business products. Where a service description does not state a period, Verizon says the retention period may be negotiated with the customer and set out in the individual contract.

Which location and marketing programs may cover a line?
Verizon’s consumer-facing program FAQs describe two different programs. Their eligibility statements should not be treated as a blanket description of every Verizon business account.
| Program | Eligibility and participation | Information and location | Controls and retention stated by Verizon |
|---|---|---|---|
| Business and Marketing Insights | Verizon says most wireless consumer and small-business customers are included. Corporate, government and prepaid accounts are excluded. | Inputs include wireless-device and usage information such as site addresses and app or feature use; location from Verizon’s network and permitted apps or websites; Verizon product and service information; demographic and interest information from customers or other companies; third-party location or point-of-interest data; and information others provide about their operations. Verizon says hotspot traffic is also used to develop insights. Outputs are described as group- or category-level and intended not to identify an individual. | Customers can opt out through My Verizon privacy preferences, the My Verizon app or 866-211-0874. Verizon says opted-out information will not be included in aggregate reports sold or shared outside Verizon. The Business and Marketing Insights FAQ does not state a retention period for this program. |
| Custom Experience | Verizon says consumer and small-business smartphone lines are included, subject to stated exceptions; corporate and government account lines are excluded. Custom Experience Plus is opt-in, with separate eligibility details. | Program inputs include network and app location and CPNI. The FAQ says Custom Experience programs do not use email or text content or what callers say during calls. Custom Experience Plus uses call detail records, including numbers, times and durations. | Settings are available through My Verizon, its app or 866-211-0874; account owners or managers can block other lines on the account. Verizon says website-visit information is kept no more than six months, and location and CPNI used in these programs for approximately one year. These periods apply to the program FAQ, not all Verizon services or business data. |
For Custom Experience, Verizon says service providers working for it may receive identifying information to operate the programs. It also says it does not share identifying information outside Verizon as part of these programs with others for their own advertising. These statements describe the programs, not every disclosure under a business service or contract.

Does turning off a phone’s location setting stop Verizon’s network location use?
No—not for the network-derived location Verizon describes in these program FAQs. Verizon’s Business and Marketing Insights FAQ says: “We continue to use location information we get when you use the Verizon network, even if your device location settings are turned off.”
The setting does affect a different source: Verizon says precise device location is unavailable when device location services are off, and its Custom Experience FAQ says turning off device location prevents receipt of location from permitted Verizon apps. Neither statement means that turning off the handset setting prevents Verizon from deriving location through network use for the programs described.

How CPNI and contract terms affect business customers
Verizon defines Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) as information available to it through its relationship with a customer about telecommunications and interconnected VoIP service: type, quantity, destination, technical configuration, location and amount of use, plus related billing information. Verizon’s CPNI notice describes marketing choices for wireless customers and, in its residential and small- and medium-business section, choices about marketing new services. It says those choices do not affect provision of existing services. The notice says it does not apply to Arizona residents, so customers should confirm which notice and terms govern their account and location.
A separate July 2025 version of Verizon’s U.S. Online Master Terms describes CPNI consent for customers whose contract incorporates those terms. It says the customer grants permission to use and share CPNI among Verizon, its affiliates and agents, contractors or partners for offering Verizon products and services; it also describes withdrawing or limiting that permission by email. The terms distinguish those activities from uses needed for service provisioning, billing, fraud detection or legal compliance. Contract versions and incorporated terms vary, so the executed agreement—not the date of a general web page—determines what applies to a particular customer.

Program privacy preferences and CPNI marketing choices are separate controls. Do not assume that changing one automatically changes the other, or that either choice stops processing needed to provide an existing service.
Quick Recap
What business administrators should check
- Classify the account and line. Confirm whether it is consumer, small-business, corporate, government or prepaid, and whether the line is a smartphone line. Program coverage differs by category.
- Identify the exact Verizon service. Find its business processing description, privacy addenda and any app- or service-specific policy; the business privacy hub points to distinct materials.
- Review the executed agreement. Check incorporated CPNI terms, customer-specific instructions and any negotiated retention periods. Do not apply a retention period from one program to unrelated business data.
- Set each relevant preference separately. Review My Verizon privacy preferences or account-owner controls for the programs described, then review the applicable CPNI marketing choices.
- Explain location accurately to employees. A handset setting changes permitted app-location collection, but it does not by itself stop network-derived location use described by Verizon for these programs.
