What EA confirmed was stolen
In its June 11, 2021 statement, EA said it was investigating an intrusion and confirmed that a limited amount of game source code and related tools had been taken. The company did not publicly identify every affected game, repository or tool, or quantify the full dataset.
That distinction matters: EA’s own description was limited and general. More specific details circulating at the time came from media reports relaying claims made by hackers.
Were FIFA 21 and Frostbite source code stolen?
Reuters and WIRED reported that hackers claimed the stolen material included FIFA 21 source code, Frostbite engine source code and related tools. Those reports also put the claimed volume at about 780 GB. These were reported attacker claims, not details EA confirmed in its public statement; the cited reports do not establish that the claim about the complete dataset was independently verified.

EA described the theft as involving a limited amount of source code and tools. Its statements do not provide a public inventory that confirms which named projects or how much material were affected.
Was player data exposed?
EA said no player data was accessed and that it had no reason to believe player privacy was at risk. This is EA’s stated assessment; the cited public statements do not provide an independent forensic finding about player data.

On July 14, 2021, EA said alleged hackers had threatened extortion and made some files public. After analyzing the released files, EA said it continued to see no reason to believe they raised a player privacy concern or created material risk to the company, its games or its players. The update did not provide a complete public account of all files the attackers may have obtained.

EA said it had made security improvements, was cooperating with law enforcement and other experts, and did not expect the incident to affect its games or business. In its July 14 update, the company said it continued to work with federal law enforcement as part of the ongoing criminal investigation.
