Those are historical release features: Forgejo 14.x reached end of support on 30 April 2026, and the project advises installations to upgrade to v15.
What changed in Forgejo 14.0
A new web file editor
Forgejo replaced Monaco, Microsoft’s editor previously used for web file edits, with CodeMirror. The project said Monaco was overly complex for single-file changes and cited performance, loading time, accessibility, and mobile usability as concerns. Forgejo described CodeMirror as a lighter editor better suited to editing an individual file in the browser. These are the project’s stated reasons; its announcement does not provide independent performance benchmarks or accessibility test results. Forgejo v14.0 release announcement.
Simple filters for issue and pull request search
Forgejo 14.0 added simple filters to issue and pull request search. They work alongside the existing dropdown filters; the release announcement points users to the help beside the search bar and a dedicated documentation page for syntax details. This is a targeted search-syntax addition, not a general-purpose search-engine overhaul. Forgejo v14.0 release announcement.
Forgejo 14 is no longer supported
Forgejo’s release listing marks the 14.x series discontinued and gives 30 April 2026 as its end-of-support date. The project’s May 2026 monthly report says it will provide no further v14 releases and advises v14 users to upgrade to v15. Accordingly, v14 should not be treated as a supported release as of 4 October 2026. See the Forgejo 14.x release listing and the May 2026 monthly report.

What administrators should consider before upgrading
The v14 announcement’s upgrade instructions are release-era guidance, not a current v14 support recommendation. It described replacing the binary or container image as the basic upgrade process and said container users could use the 14.0 tag to track the latest 14.0.Y patch. The same announcement recommended making a full backup and carefully reviewing all breaking changes before upgrading. Since v14 has been discontinued, administrators should consult current release guidance for the target version rather than rely on an old version tag.
- Support status: confirm the target release is supported and check its end-of-support date.
- Breaking changes: read the target release’s migration notes and assess their effect on your instance and integrations.
- Backup and recovery: make a full backup and ensure you know how to restore it before changing versions.
- Operational requirements: verify the upgrade method and any prerequisites for your installation type against current guidance.
A release-specific cleanup figure
Forgejo’s Devops team reported that, while running its cleanup tool on code.forgejo.org, it identified 14,916,470 redundant commit-status records among 15,297,011 reviewed—about 97%—for deletion. This figure describes that specific instance and run, not a typical result or expected cleanup rate for other Forgejo installations. Forgejo v14.0 release announcement.

The release announcement called v14.0 “a non-LTS release that replaces the previous non-LTS release, Forgejo v13.0.” That release classification is useful context for administrators comparing versions, but the present support status is determined by the later lifecycle information above.
