To reboot a Roku Premiere Plus or another Roku streaming player, press Home on the remote and open Settings > System > Power > System restart. If your Roku has no Power submenu, choose System restart directly under System. If you cannot reach the menu, unplug the player, wait at least 10 seconds, then reconnect it. A restart does not erase your settings.
Restart from the Roku menu
- Press Home on your Roku remote.
- Open Settings, then select System.
- Select Power if that submenu appears, then choose System restart. If there is no Power option, select System restart from the System menu.
- Confirm the restart if prompted and allow the player to shut down and start again.
Roku Support describes a system restart as its least invasive reset method; it does not affect your settings. The menu instructions apply to Roku streaming players, including Premiere players. Menu layouts and power arrangements can differ on other Roku device types. See Roku’s system restart instructions and Premiere support information.
Restart without the remote or menu
If the menu is inaccessible, disconnect the Roku player’s power, wait at least 10 seconds, and plug it back in. This power cycle does not require a working remote. Use the player’s power connection; unplugging the TV alone may not disconnect a Roku powered separately.
If the remote is the problem but the player is otherwise controllable, check or replace its batteries. Roku also says its free mobile app can access the restart menu when the player can be controlled through the app. See Roku remote troubleshooting.

Restart versus factory reset

It restarts when the TV turns on
If a player is powered by the TV’s USB port, the TV may cut power when switched off or placed in standby. The player then boots again when the TV turns on. For the player models covered by Roku’s guidance, connecting it to a wall power outlet can avoid that behavior. This explanation does not apply to every Roku model or every unexpected restart. Playback or app problems continue
A restart is one troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix. If shows still will not play or an app will not open, check whether the service is experiencing an interruption and look for Wi-Fi or app-specific issues rather than repeatedly rebooting.
