The Keychron M2 8K pairs an 8,000Hz maximum polling rate and a 30,000-DPI sensor with a review-date US price of $69. Tom’s Guide found it capable in games and easy to customize, but also reported a stiff scroll wheel and a smooth shell that felt slippery and showed fingerprints quickly. It makes most sense if performance and configuration matter more to you than a grippy, low-maintenance finish.

What the Keychron M2 8K offers

The M2 8K is the top polling-rate version in Keychron’s M2 family. Keychron lists a PixArt 3950 sensor, a maximum sensitivity of 30,000 DPI, and six polling-rate choices from 125Hz to 8,000Hz when connected over 2.4GHz. The 8K model includes an 8K wireless receiver. The family also supports Bluetooth and wired connections; Keychron specifies Bluetooth 5.3 for the 8K version. See Keychron’s M2 product listing for the specifications and variant-dependent price.

Tom’s Guide lists the reviewed mouse as right-handed, with six buttons, dimensions of 4.78 × 2.63 × 1.6 inches, a weight of 1.94 ounces, and a 600mAh rechargeable battery. Those details can help with basic fit and desk setup, but they do not establish that the shape will suit every hand or grip style.

Check the variant before buying

Keychron sells M2 models with 1K, 4K, and 8K polling-rate ceilings. The official listing associates the 8K version with the PixArt 3950 sensor, while the 1K and 4K versions use a PixArt 3395. If you want the configuration discussed here, make sure the selected listing says M2 8K; a lower-priced M2 may be a different polling-rate and sensor configuration.

Gaming performance and customization

Tom’s Guide’s October 2, 2026 review praised the M2 8K’s gaming performance and browser-based customization. Its headline specifications are attractive for a mouse in this price bracket, though a maximum polling rate or DPI figure alone does not determine whether a mouse will feel better in your games. The reviewer’s verdict called it a solid choice for buyers seeking performance without spending more than $100.

The review also praised battery life at a lower polling rate. Its listed runtimes are 140 hours at 1,000Hz and 40 hours at 8,000Hz. These are rated figures reported by the review, not a new battery test here; actual runtime depends on usage. Choosing the highest polling rate trades battery life for the maximum report frequency, and the reviewer notes that high polling can also use more system resources. You can lower the rate when you do not need 8,000Hz.

The main tradeoff: a slippery, fingerprint-prone shell

Tom’s Guide’s reviewer found the smooth, uncoated ABS shell slippery during testing. Fingerprints became visibly shiny after about an hour, so the finish may frustrate you if you prefer a textured mouse or want a surface that stays looking clean. These are the reviewer’s hands-on impressions, not a claim that every user will experience the same grip.

The review also describes the scroll wheel as heavy and stiff, including its click. That tactile issue is worth weighing if you rely on frequent scrolling or prefer a light, easy wheel press. Grip tape is one optional remedy the reviewer suggests for the shell; the review does not identify a specific compatible tape product.

Who should buy the M2 8K?

  • Consider it if you want the 8K configuration, value the review’s positive gaming and customization impressions, and can accept a smooth finish and firm-feeling wheel.
  • Look elsewhere if grip and surface texture are priorities, or if you are sensitive to a stiff scroll wheel. Tom’s Guide points to the M3 Mini V2 8K and NZXT Lift Elite Wireless for more textured surfaces in its testing.
  • Choose your polling rate deliberately if battery runtime matters: the review lists substantially different rated runtimes at 1,000Hz and 8,000Hz.
