Both offer 1.5K AMOLED displays with refresh rates up to 120Hz and the same listed RAM and storage configurations. Which is the better buy depends on whether you value screen size and battery capacity or a lighter body and more camera versatility—and on your local prices.
How the Xiaomi 17T and POCO X8 Pro Max compare

Which phone has the bigger screen and is easier to carry?
The POCO has the larger display at 6.83 inches, compared with 6.59 inches on the Xiaomi. Both manufacturers list 1.5K AMOLED panels with refresh rates up to 120Hz; those headline specifications do not establish which screen looks better in measured brightness, color accuracy, or outdoor use.

The Xiaomi is 200g, while the POCO is 218g. It is also shorter and narrower on the published dimensions, so it is the more compact option. Choose the POCO if you prefer more screen area; choose the Xiaomi if you prioritize a smaller, lighter phone.
Which has the better camera?
The Xiaomi has the more versatile listed rear-camera hardware. Alongside its 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and 12MP ultrawide, it includes a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS and a 115mm-equivalent focal length. That dedicated telephoto option gives it a hardware advantage for distant subjects compared with the POCO’s listed two-camera rear setup: a 50MP main camera with OIS and an 8MP ultrawide.

This is a comparison of camera equipment, not a verdict on overall photo or video quality. The specifications do not show how the phones perform in different lighting, how their image processing compares, or whether one produces better results in practice.
Which has the bigger battery and faster charging?
On the published figures, the POCO leads in battery capacity and charging wattage: it lists an 8,500mAh typical battery and 100W HyperCharge. Xiaomi lists a 6,500mAh typical silicon-carbon battery and 67W HyperCharge. The POCO also lists higher wired reverse charging, up to 27W versus up to 22.5W on the Xiaomi.

Those numbers do not establish how long either phone lasts per charge or how quickly it charges in everyday conditions. No comparative endurance or charging-time test is available here, so treat capacity and wattage as specification differences rather than promises of a particular runtime or charge time.
Which processor is faster?
The POCO lists a MediaTek Dimensity 9500s manufactured on a 3nm process; the Xiaomi lists a Dimensity 8500-Ultra on a 4nm process. The POCO’s chipset has the higher product-tier naming and smaller stated process node, but those details alone are not a benchmark. No independent performance comparison is established, so they do not prove which phone is faster in games, apps, or prolonged workloads.

What is the price difference?
There is no reliable universal price difference without a country, date, seller, and matching storage tier. The available examples are not a like-for-like comparison:
- Xiaomi 17T: Xiaomi Japan’s 2026 launch page listed ¥84,980 before tax for the 12GB+256GB model. Its campaign period ran from 28 May through 21 July 2026, so this is historical Japanese launch and promotion context—not a current global quote. See Xiaomi Japan’s launch page.
- POCO X8 Pro Max: TechRadar’s roundup dated 17 July 2026 gave a starting reference of $469 / £469. This is secondary reference pricing, not a live quote for a particular local seller or storage configuration. See TechRadar’s Xiaomi phone roundup.
Do not subtract those amounts or use them to declare a global price winner: they use different currencies, markets, and source bases. For a useful local comparison, check the same storage capacity on the same date and account for tax, warranty, promotions, and seller. Availability also varies by market; confirm that each model is sold in your country before comparing offers.

What should you check before buying?
Network compatibility and regional model
Both manufacturers publish extensive network-band information and caution that 5G availability can depend on region and operator. Xiaomi also says eSIM availability varies by country or region and carrier. Check the exact local variant against your carrier’s supported bands and services rather than assuming a global specification applies to every market. See the Xiaomi 17T product information and POCO X8 Pro Max product information.
Charger and box contents
Xiaomi says the 17T box does not include a power adapter and recommends a Xiaomi 67W-or-higher adapter. POCO advises checking adapter availability with the local seller; it lists a protective case in the package but notes contents can vary by region. If you need a charger, verify the local bundle and supported charging protocols before choosing one.
Water resistance
Neither IP68 listing means a phone is waterproof. Xiaomi specifies testing in static fresh water to a depth of 1.5m for up to 30 minutes, with additional conditions, and warns that this does not assure resistance outside the test or after wear, damage, or repair. Treat the ratings as conditional protection, not a reason to expose either device deliberately to water.
