What happened at Thyssenkrupp?
On February 29, 2024, SecurityWeek reported that a Thyssenkrupp spokesperson confirmed a ransomware attempt against Automotive Body Solutions. The spokesperson characterized it as unsuccessful: “Yes, it was a ransomware attempt which failed,”
That wording is Thyssenkrupp’s description of the incident, not independent forensic confirmation that no systems or data were affected. The report identifies Automotive Body Solutions as the affected business; it does not say that the company’s steelmaking operations or the entire Thyssenkrupp group were disrupted.
Did the incident stop production or customer supply?
The report says factory production work at Automotive Body Solutions was halted. Thyssenkrupp also said the situation was under control and that it remained able to supply customers. Those statements indicate production disruption alongside continued customer supply; they do not establish that production was unaffected.

SecurityWeek did not quantify how long production work was halted, identify the number of facilities involved, or give a date when production fully resumed.
What remains unknown?
The February 29, 2024 report does not identify the attacker or explain how the attempt was made. It does not establish whether data was accessed or taken, quantify financial losses, or provide a complete recovery timeline. Those details should be treated as unconfirmed rather than inferred from the ransomware label.
