The company did not publish a total number of affected customers or cards. Its estimate that less than 1% of website visits were affected is a share of visits, not people or payment cards.
What happened in the Pizza Hut website hack?
Pizza Hut’s customer notice, dated October 14, 2017, said the company identified a temporary security intrusion affecting its website. The relevant period ran from the morning of October 1 through midday October 2, 2017. Customers who visited the website or mobile application and placed an order during that period may have had order information compromised. Pizza Hut said it quickly identified the intrusion and acted to halt it. Read the notice hosted by the California Attorney General.
The notice estimated that “less than one percent of the visits to our website over the course of the relevant week” were affected. That is the company’s estimate of affected website visits; it does not establish the number of unique customers, orders, or cards involved.

How many customers were affected?
Pizza Hut’s October notice does not give a total number of affected customers or cards. The “less than one percent” figure is based on website visits during the relevant week, so it cannot be converted into a customer count from the notice.

Do not confuse this with a separate Yum! Brands incident
A Yum! Brands SEC filing describes a different, broader cybersecurity incident in fiscal 2017. It says criminals exploited a software vulnerability in a U.S. website application, with unauthorized access from mid-May through July. The filing concerns personal information involving consumers in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K.; it says payment-card numbers for approximately 209,000 U.S. and Canadian consumers were accessed. What should you do if you used your card on Pizza Hut’s website?
If you believe your order fell within the affected period, review the account linked to the card for unfamiliar transactions and contact your bank or card issuer through its trusted phone number, app, or website. Tell it you are concerned the card details may have been exposed and ask what account or card action is appropriate. Pizza Hut’s 2017 notice warned recipients about email, telephone, and postal scams. It stated: “Neither Pizza Hut nor anyone acting on its behalf will contact you in any way, including by email, to ask for your credit card number, Social Security number, or other personal information.” This is the wording of that historical notice, not a general statement about every company communication today. Treat an unexpected request for sensitive information with caution and contact the company or your financial institution using a trusted channel.

Was free credit monitoring offered?
Pizza Hut said it arranged one year of credit monitoring through Kroll Information Assurance for people it notified. That was a historical offer made in 2017; the notice does not establish that enrollment is still available.
