A balanced Punishing: Gray Raven squad covers the work the activity demands: a main damage dealer, ways to weaken or get through enemy defenses, and healing or buffs when useful. Treat Attacker, Tank, and Support as a starting framework—not a fixed three-class formula. Your best lineup depends on the mode, your roster, and the game version.
Start with the character who will do most of the fighting
For story progression, choose a primary damage dealer first: the character expected to spend the most time on the field and deal most of the squad’s damage. Build the rest of the lineup around what that character needs, using the characters you actually own.
A 2024 Games Learning Society team-building guide advises concentrating early story resources on the main character rather than spreading upgrades evenly across the roster. Its specific character examples reflect the game state at the time and should not be treated as current recommendations.
Use combat roles as a checklist, not a rigid template
The character reference separates Constructs into classes including Attacker, Tank, Support, and Amplifier. For basic squad planning, think about what each character contributes rather than filling slots by class name alone.

#1 Best Overall
- A Ribose import
- From the Punishing: Gray Raven video game
- Figure stands 9" tall
- Depicted in an adorable blue and white rabbit-themed bikini
- Includes a shower base for a magical summer scene
- Attacker: supplies the squad’s primary damage.
- Tank: can weaken enemies and is commonly associated with reducing shields or defenses.
- Support: can contribute healing and buffs.
- Amplifier: is a separate class in the character reference; consider the actual character’s contribution and the activity rather than assuming that every lineup needs one.
These roles are a practical baseline, not a guarantee that every three-character team should contain one of each. A second damage contribution or a mode-specific requirement may be more valuable than strict class symmetry. The community-maintained character reference lists the classes, while the community combat guide describes tanks as helping with shield shredding.
Account for damage type and enemy shields
The community combat guide describes a difference between physical and elemental damage: physical damage is reduced by shields, while elemental damage ignores shields. It also associates tanks with shield shredding. Use this as a general combat consideration, not an exhaustive explanation of every enemy or encounter mechanic.
When a fight is giving your main damage dealer trouble, ask whether the issue is damage type or defenses before replacing the whole team. A tank that weakens defenses may complement a physical-focused attacker; a lineup dealing elemental damage may interact with shields differently. The right choice still depends on the encounter and the characters available to you.
Change the plan for score-oriented modes
Story progression, Phantom Pain Cage, and War Zone are different optimization contexts. An older team-building guide discusses Phantom Pain Cage and War Zone separately, which is a useful reminder that a story lineup is not automatically the best score-focused lineup. Its specific element-based arrangements are historical examples, not validated current meta advice.

For a competitive or score-oriented team, compare options against the activity and your account rather than applying a universal trio:
- Activity: decide whether you are building for story, Phantom Pain Cage, or War Zone.
- Damage type or element: consider whether the intended damage composition suits the target content.
- Role coverage: check for a main damage source, useful enemy weakening or shield reduction, and healing or buffs where they help.
- Roster and investment: account for who you own, their investment, and whether a lower-cost substitute is practical for your account.
How much to rely on named team recommendations
A July 9, 2026 LDShop guide lists example teams for Physical, Fire, Ice, Lightning, Dark, and Nihil, and distinguishes competitive and budget suggestions. It describes featured lineups in terms of damage dealing, resistance reduction or tank functions, and healing or buffs. Treat those recommendations as a dated snapshot, not proof that a lineup remains optimal.
The exact Global patch live on October 4, 2026, and the patch-level validity of those named compositions are not established here. Global and CN versions can differ; the 2024 guide, for example, noted a server availability difference for Vera. Before spending resources or pulling specifically for a recommended team, check a guide that matches your server and patch. Without that match, role-based planning is more dependable than copying a roster list.
