Apple released macOS Sonoma 14 on September 26, 2023. SecurityWeek reported the next day that the release’s security advisory covered “more than 60 vulnerabilities”—a historical news summary, not a current count of every issue in Apple’s advisory. Apple’s page lists security fixes by component and CVE identifier, and it has since been updated.
What does “more than 60 vulnerabilities” mean?
The figure comes from SecurityWeek’s September 27, 2023 report on Apple’s Sonoma 14 security advisory. It is SecurityWeek’s characterization of the original release’s fixes, rather than a total Apple gives as a headline count. Apple organizes the advisory by affected component and CVE reference where available. Because Apple has updated the page since its original publication, the current page should not be treated as a frozen count of the September 2023 release.
Apple says its security documents reference vulnerabilities by CVE-ID when possible. It also explains its disclosure policy: “For our customers’ protection, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available.” Apple’s macOS Sonoma 14 security advisory includes the component-level entries.
What kinds of security problems did the fixes address?
The advisory’s entries describe a range of potential consequences, not one uniform impact shared by every vulnerability. Depending on the issue, an attacker might be able to cause denial of service, access sensitive information or files, execute arbitrary code, escape a sandbox, gain privileges, bypass protections, or modify protected files.

SecurityWeek’s 2023 summary said a few issues could be reached remotely through specially crafted websites, while most required a malicious app on the affected device. That is a broad summary of the set, not a prerequisite that applies to every CVE. The required access and potential impact depend on the individual advisory entry.
Did Sonoma 14 fix every issue for the first time?
No. SecurityWeek noted that some listed issues had already been addressed in earlier updates. Its report specifically mentioned CVE-2023-41993, which it described as exploited as a zero-day to deliver spyware to iPhones. That context does not mean Sonoma 14 was the first fix for every item included in the advisory.

What should Sonoma users do now?
The September 2023 release is not the endpoint for security updates. Apple’s security-release index lists macOS Sonoma 14.8.9 dated August 6, 2026. Check Apple’s security releases for later updates and the current status for your macOS version, rather than relying on the original Sonoma 14 advisory alone.
