The Dailymotion breach behind reports of millions of stolen accounts happened in October 2016; it is not a newly announced 2026 breach. Dailymotion said in August 2017 that Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) had added data from that earlier incident and that the listing was not a new breach. A later breach reference reports 85,176,234 affected accounts, citing HIBP metadata; treat that as an estimate, not a confirmed count of unique people.
Was Dailymotion hacked, and when?
Yes. Dailymotion says the incident occurred in October 2016. HIBP added the leak to its database on 6 August 2017, and Dailymotion’s statement of 10 August 2017 clarified that the listing referred to the old incident rather than a new breach. The company said it had acknowledged the 2016 breach, while also saying it was then confirming whether the data listed by HIBP was authentic. Dailymotion’s 10 August 2017 statement

What information was reportedly exposed?
The later breach reference lists email addresses, usernames, and passwords, with the password data described as bcrypt hashes. Dailymotion said the passwords were not stored in clear text and were protected using bcrypt. It also qualified that protection: a sufficiently complex password was less likely to be recovered, while a weak one could be more vulnerable to cracking. How do I check whether my account was affected?
Dailymotion’s 2017 statement directed users to Have I Been Pwned to check whether an account appeared in its breach database. Go to the service directly rather than following an unsolicited email or message that asks you to sign in or provide credentials. What should I do if I reused my Dailymotion password?
- Change the reused password everywhere it was used. Start with your email account and other important services, then update each remaining site. Use each service’s official website or app and its account-recovery process if needed.
- Choose a different, strong password for every account. Dailymotion’s current guidance recommends unique, strong passwords. - Review account-security settings. Use the service’s official settings and recovery options to check that your account remains under your control.

Yes, but it was a separate event, not the 2016 data breach. In January 2019, Dailymotion described an attack involving password guessing and attempts using passwords previously stolen from unrelated websites.
