Microsoft’s Central Store page lists Windows 11 25H2 as the newest Windows release with an Administrative Templates download and matching Group Policy Settings Reference spreadsheet in the materials covered here; it does not list 26H2. Treat 26H2 template availability as unverified and check Microsoft’s current How to create and manage the Central Store for Group Policy Administrative Templates in Windows page before deploying templates. Also, “shared” can mean either sharing ADMX templates through a domain Central Store or configuring a shared Windows device with Shared PC mode—two different administrator tasks.
Are Windows 11 26H2 Group Policy templates available?
The Microsoft Central Store page identified here lists Windows 11 25H2, 24H2, and earlier releases, but no 26H2 Administrative Templates package or Group Policy Settings Reference spreadsheet. That does not establish whether Microsoft has since published 26H2 materials. Verify the current Microsoft listing rather than assuming that a package exists or that a 25H2 reference describes every 26H2 policy.
When selecting templates, match the release represented by the ADMX/ADML files and spreadsheet to the Windows release and policies you intend to manage. The spreadsheet helps identify settings in the corresponding template set; it is not proof that every setting applies to every Windows edition, scope, or management channel.
What “shared” means in Group Policy
Sharing administrative templates with a Central Store
A domain Central Store is a shared location for ADMX policy-definition files and their language-specific ADML files. Group Policy tools use those templates to display and edit settings. It is an administrative template-storage choice, not a configuration that turns a PC into a shared-use device.

Microsoft says its ADMX download packages are intended for the Central Store scenario and warns: “Replacing files in c:WindowsPolicyDefinitions isn’t supported.” Follow Microsoft’s Central Store instructions for the environment you administer; do not treat copying a downloaded package over the local PolicyDefinitions folder as a universal update procedure.
Configuring a shared or guest Windows device
Shared PC mode is a Windows device configuration for shared or guest use. Microsoft’s shared-device guidance says it applies settings through the local Group Policy object. This is separate from maintaining a domain Central Store, even though both involve Group Policy.

The Shared PC technical reference names two policies that enable the mode:

Consult the technical reference for the broader set of settings associated with the selected mode; enabling Shared PC mode is not equivalent to choosing a set of domain-wide ADMX templates.

How to choose and apply templates safely
- Check Microsoft’s current Central Store page. Confirm which Windows release has a listed Administrative Templates package and matching Group Policy Settings Reference spreadsheet. If 26H2 is absent, do not label a 25H2 download as a 26H2 package.
- Identify where Group Policy tools should read templates. Use Microsoft’s Central Store guidance for the domain scenario. The local
C:WindowsPolicyDefinitionsdirectory is not a supported destination for replacing files from these download packages. - Find each intended setting in the matching reference. Confirm its supported Windows version and edition, whether it is computer or user scoped, and the configuration channel it supports. Do this policy by policy; one Windows 11 support statement does not establish compatibility for every setting.
- Keep product-specific templates separate. A product such as Windows Terminal can publish its own ADMX/ADML files and installation instructions. Those templates govern that product’s settings; they do not establish the Windows client baseline or substitute for the Windows release template list.
- Validate the result on the target configuration. Confirm that the setting appears in the relevant policy editor and that the target devices, scope, and management method match the setting’s documented applicability before broad deployment.
Check applicability setting by setting
Microsoft’s ADMX_GroupPolicy Policy CSP documentation presents applicability and behavior at the individual-setting level. Its Windows 11 21H2-and-later examples should not be read as blanket support for every policy. Before recommending a setting, check the actual entry for the target OS version and edition, user or device scope, and whether the intended configuration path is Group Policy or MDM. A template can expose a setting in an editor without proving that every target device supports or honors it.

Group Policy settings and Group Policy preferences have different enforcement behavior. When a policy setting and a preference conflict, Microsoft says the policy takes precedence. Users can change a preference, and a later Group Policy refresh can restore its configured value. Use a policy when the setting must be enforced; do not describe a preference as a restriction users cannot change.
