An Android phone can work as a Bluetooth keyboard for a desktop PC if the phone supports Bluetooth HID peripheral mode and the computer accepts Bluetooth HID devices. The title does not identify the app used with the Pixel 4a, and the available app listings do not verify that exact phone-and-software combination, so check compatibility on your own device before relying on it.
What you need before you start
- An Android phone that can act as a Bluetooth HID peripheral. The developer listing for Bluetooth Keyboard Mouse says most devices running Android 9 or later support this role, but not all do. That is the app developer’s compatibility guidance, not a guarantee for every phone or build.
- A computer that accepts Bluetooth HID input. The desktop must be able to pair with a Bluetooth keyboard or another HID peripheral.
- An app that supports direct Bluetooth HID. The listings for Bluetooth Keyboard Mouse and BlueMouse: BT Mouse & Keyboard describe direct Bluetooth connections that do not require a PC server, though their feature and setup details differ.
Set up Bluetooth Keyboard Mouse
The app’s Google Play listing, updated September 24, 2026, gives this pairing sequence. Exact labels may vary with your Android and desktop operating-system versions.
- Install Bluetooth Keyboard Mouse and grant the Bluetooth and notification permissions it requests.
- In the app, tap Register HID to register the phone as a Bluetooth input device.
- On the desktop, open Bluetooth settings and search for nearby devices.
- Select Android HID Controller and complete the computer’s pairing prompts.
- Return to the app and use its keyboard, touchpad, or remote-control tabs.
If the computer does not find the phone, first confirm that HID registration succeeded and that Bluetooth is enabled on both devices. If the phone cannot register HID, the app’s listing says the device may not support the required peripheral role.
Trying BlueMouse instead
BlueMouse’s Google Play listing, updated November 9, 2025, describes a related direct-connection flow: pair the phone and PC in Bluetooth settings, select the PC in the app, and control it wirelessly. The listing claims support for Windows, macOS, and Linux without PC server software; that is a developer claim, not independent compatibility testing.

How to choose an app
Compare the connection method and the controls you actually need rather than assuming every app supports every phone.
- Check peripheral compatibility: Does this exact phone and Android build expose Bluetooth HID device mode? The app listing recommends testing the specific devices.
- Check the desktop: Can it pair with and receive input from a Bluetooth keyboard?
- Check setup: Does the phone register as an HID device and then appear in the desktop’s Bluetooth picker, or does the app require companion software on the computer?
- Compare controls: Look for the keyboard shortcuts and text entry, touchpad gestures, media buttons, or presentation controls you need. The app listings describe varying feature sets; they are not independent tests.
- Read privacy disclosures cautiously: Google Play data-safety details are supplied by developers, can change, and may vary by region and age. They are not an independent security audit.
What the Pixel 4a title does—and does not—establish
The title does not name the app, and the reviewed listings do not confirm that a particular app works on a Pixel 4a with every Android software build. The Android Compatibility Test Suite page includes Bluetooth HID host and device verifier strings, but it does not establish compatibility for this phone-and-app combination: AOSP CTS Bluetooth HID verifier strings.

If your phone cannot register as a Bluetooth HID peripheral, or you want a dedicated input device, a compact Bluetooth keyboard is a practical fallback; it is not required if the phone-and-app setup works.
