See Tickets’ web skimmer incident was disclosed in 2023, not newly announced in 2026. Contemporaneous reporting said malicious code on checkout pages collected information entered from February 28 through July 2, 2023, and that more than 300,000 people were notified. If you may have used an affected checkout page during that period, monitor the payment account you used, contact its issuer about suspicious charges, and be alert for phishing.

What happened in the See Tickets incident?

SecurityWeek reported on September 7, 2023, that See Tickets was notifying more than 300,000 individuals after payment-card information was stolen in a web skimmer attack. According to that report, the company became aware of unusual activity in May 2023. A forensic firm reportedly found that an unauthorized third party had inserted malicious code into multiple e-commerce checkout pages in May and June. The code collected information entered on those pages from February 28 through July 2, 2023. SecurityWeek’s September 2023 report is the source for this overall account; the original 2023 consumer notification was not available to verify independently.

A web skimmer is malicious code placed on a website’s checkout page to capture information as a customer enters it. It is distinct from a physical card skimmer attached to a payment terminal: in this case the reported mechanism was code on online checkout pages.

What information was reportedly collected?

SecurityWeek said the information included names, addresses, and payment-card information. TechCrunch reported that more than 323,000 customers were affected and described card numbers in combination with security or access codes, passwords, or PIN numbers. That is a more specific secondary account, not a verified field list from the original notice. The complete set of exposed information should therefore not be assumed from the available reporting. TechCrunch’s report supplies the more precise customer figure and credential description.

SecurityWeek reported that See Tickets said it had no evidence the stolen information had been fraudulently used at the time, while warning that such data is commonly shared and may be used for fraud. The reviewed sources do not establish whether misuse occurred later.

How many people were affected?

The figures refer to different scopes and reporting precision; they should not be treated as interchangeable:

Figure What it represents Source
More than 300,000 individuals Rounded overall notification figure in contemporaneous reporting SecurityWeek, September 2023
More than 323,000 customers More precise overall figure reported secondhand TechCrunch, September 2023
16,450 Washingtonians People affected in Washington state; this is not the overall count Washington State Office of the Attorney General record

The Washington record lists February 28, 2023, as the incident start, July 2 as its end, and September 5, 2023, as the report date. Its count applies to Washington residents only.

  1. Review the account used to pay. Check recent and upcoming bank or credit-card transactions for unfamiliar charges.
  2. Contact the card issuer about suspicious activity. Use the number on the card or the issuer’s official website, and follow its advice about disputing a charge, replacing the card, or securing the account. A replacement card comes from the financial institution; a wallet or sleeve does not address code running on an online checkout page.
  3. Be cautious with follow-up messages. Do not provide passwords, card details, or verification codes in response to an unexpected email, text, or call. Go directly to the service’s official website or contact the institution using a trusted number.
  4. Use identity-theft resources if you see broader misuse. The Maine Attorney General’s consumer identity-theft resources point to FTC guidance and include information on reporting identity theft and disputing card charges or inaccurate credit-report information.

How does this differ from See Tickets’ earlier incident?

See Tickets’ October 2022 consumer notice described a separate checkout-page incident, with a suspected collection period from June 25, 2019, through January 8, 2022. It listed potentially involved data as name, address, ZIP code, payment-card number, expiration date, and CVV, and described additional safeguards, stronger security monitoring, authentication, and coding. Those dates and details belong to the earlier incident, not the 2023 attack. See Tickets’ October 2022 notice recommended reviewing recent bank or card statements, notifying a financial institution about suspicious activity, and watching for phishing.
