Apple documents that integration as an Apple Intelligence feature, so the official guidance does not support a universal ChatGPT-with-Siri setup on every iPhone or iPad. You can use the ChatGPT app separately, and Apple supports Siri for App Shortcuts generally, but that does not establish a ChatGPT shortcut that works as a substitute on devices without Apple Intelligence.
What “ChatGPT with Siri” means
There are three different ways to use ChatGPT from an Apple device. Only the first is the built-in integration with Siri:

Apple’s App Shortcuts documentation describes the general platform feature, not a verified ChatGPT shortcut that returns answers through Siri on unsupported devices. For the ChatGPT app, check the current App Store listing for its minimum iOS requirement.
Set up the built-in integration on a supported device
If Apple Intelligence is available on your device and in your language and region, use the following route. Labels may differ as operating systems change; Apple’s cited iPhone instructions are for iOS 27.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Tap ChatGPT, then Set Up.
- Choose whether to enable ChatGPT without an account or connect an account, then follow the prompts.
- Try a request such as: “Hey Siri, ask ChatGPT to compose a haiku about dragons.”
For the current setup flow, see OpenAI’s setup guide, along with Apple’s instructions for iPhone and iPad. Device eligibility and availability depend on Apple’s current support requirements; check those for your installed OS rather than assuming the same menu or availability on every device.
Account, confirmation, and files
Using ChatGPT without an account
Apple’s setup guidance allows you to enable the extension without connecting a ChatGPT account. Sign in if you want requests made through the integration to be saved in your ChatGPT history.

When Siri asks before sending a request
In the documented extension flow, Siri ordinarily asks before sending a request to ChatGPT. OpenAI says you can turn off Confirm ChatGPT Requests in Settings, or begin a regular prompt with “Ask ChatGPT…” to bypass that confirmation. Siri still asks permission before sending a file. These controls describe the documented extension flow and should not be assumed to apply identically to every OS version or Siri mode. See OpenAI’s Apple Intelligence – Siri FAQ.
Photos and documents
The integration may assist with some requests about photos and documents. File handling has its own permission prompt; it is not a blanket authorization to send files whenever Siri is used.

If the ChatGPT option is missing
- Check Apple Intelligence eligibility and availability. The built-in integration is documented as an Apple Intelligence feature. Requirements can vary by device, OS, language, and region.
- Confirm the installed OS and current labels. Apple’s iPhone guide cited here is for iOS 27, and settings can change across releases.
- Use the ChatGPT app directly if the integration is unavailable. Check its current App Store listing for device and OS compatibility. Opening the app is a fallback for ChatGPT use, not a way to make ChatGPT part of Siri.
- Do not assume a shortcut solves the limitation. Apple documents App Shortcuts as a general feature, but that alone does not verify a ChatGPT-specific shortcut that works on a device without Apple Intelligence.
