If password-reset emails are landing in spam, diagnose the message path before switching providers. Check whether the message was rejected, bounced, suppressed, or accepted but filtered into spam; then verify SPF, DKIM, and DMARC alignment for the domain users see in the From address. Resend, Postmark, and Amazon SES can all support transactional sending, but no feature list guarantees inbox placement. The right choice depends on your setup, monitoring needs, and team capacity.

First find out what happened to the message

“Going to spam” can describe several different outcomes. A provider may accept a send request even though a mailbox provider later rejects the message or places it in spam. Start with one affected address and trace that specific attempt through your sending provider’s event records.

  1. Check the provider event. Determine whether the message was accepted, deferred, bounced, or suppressed. A suppressed address may not receive a new send attempt at all.
  2. Check the recipient mailbox. Look in spam or junk, and test more than one mailbox provider. A result in one inbox does not establish what other providers will do.
  3. Inspect the raw message headers. Review SPF and DKIM results and whether authentication aligns with the visible From domain. A DNS record existing is not proof that this message passed or aligned.
  4. Review retries and reputation signals. Stop repeated attempts to invalid addresses, and investigate complaints and hard bounces rather than continually resending.

Amazon SES describes deliverability in terms that include recipient-server decisions and sender practices; its documentation also covers suppression mechanisms. See Amazon SES guidance on email deliverability.

Authenticate the domain users see

Authentication helps recipient systems assess who sent a message, but it does not force a message into the inbox. Configure the sending identity for the domain and provider you actually use, then confirm results in the message headers.

  • SPF identifies sending systems authorized for a domain.
  • DKIM adds a cryptographic signature to messages.
  • DMARC lets a domain owner set a policy and checks alignment between the visible From domain and SPF or DKIM identities.

Amazon SES documents SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and custom MAIL FROM configuration in its email authentication methods guide. Its separate DMARC guidance explains the alignment and policy considerations. Each provider has its own setup requirements; follow the instructions for the service and domain in use, and verify the outcome on a real sent message.

How the three services differ for password resets

All three are candidates for application email, but the documented features differ. These distinctions can help you choose an operating model; they do not establish which service will achieve better inbox placement for your recipients.

Decision point Resend Postmark Amazon SES
Password-reset fit Resend identifies password resets as a transactional email use case. Resend service and pricing information Postmark explicitly describes password resets as transactional stream messages. Postmark getting started guide SES supports email sending and documents authentication; the cited guidance does not provide a password-reset-specific setup. SES authentication guide
Transactional and broadcast separation Resend distinguishes transactional and marketing or broadcast sending in its service information. Resend service and pricing information Postmark provides separate transactional and broadcast streams, including separate IP ranges, according to its setup guide. Postmark getting started guide The cited sources do not establish an equivalent product-level stream feature. Decide how your SES configuration will separate traffic.
Authentication Lists SPF, DKIM, and DMARC authentication and domain controls. Resend service and pricing information Recommends DKIM and Return-Path authentication; its setup guide also discusses SPF and DMARC. Postmark getting started guide Documents SPF, DKIM, DMARC, and custom MAIL FROM configuration. SES authentication guide
Suppression and troubleshooting Documents suppression visibility and controls. Resend suppression visibility announcement Lists suppression management and delivery reporting. Postmark pricing and product information Documents deliverability concepts and a global suppression list. SES deliverability guidance
Operational work Assess domain setup, API integration, event visibility, suppression controls, and monitoring against your team’s capacity. Assess stream configuration, authentication, reporting, and suppression management. Plan for your team to configure identities and authentication and monitor deliverability settings.

Choose by fit, not by an inbox-placement promise

Choose Resend if

You want a service that identifies password resets as transactional email and offers documented domain controls and suppression visibility. Its current plan figures can help estimate fit, but they say nothing about placement: Resend’s pricing page, observed October 4, 2026, lists Free at $0 per month for 3,000 emails per month with a 100-email daily cap, and Pro at $20 per month for 50,000 emails per month. The same page lists 30-day data retention on Free and Pro. These are vendor-published plan details and can change; check the current Resend pricing page.

Choose Postmark if

You value a documented separation between transactional and broadcast traffic and want the service’s setup guidance, suppression management, and delivery reporting to shape your operating workflow. Postmark defines a transactional stream as messages to a single recipient triggered by an action such as a password reset. This is a description of its service, not an independent assessment of deliverability. Review Postmark’s setup guide and its current pricing for the details that apply to your account.

Choose Amazon SES if

Your team is prepared to work with AWS identity, authentication, and deliverability configuration, and wants to evaluate those controls within its existing setup. SES documentation covers authentication and deliverability, but the cited material does not establish a product-level equivalent to Postmark’s separate streams. Check current AWS regional pricing and account settings before estimating cost; the cited material does not supply comparable pricing figures.

Run a controlled trial before migrating

If the cause is still unclear—or you are comparing providers—test with your real sending domain and a representative set of recipient inboxes. Keep the message content and sending conditions as consistent as possible, and record the result for each mailbox provider.

  1. Send password-reset messages to test accounts at the recipient providers your users rely on, including Gmail, Yahoo, Microsoft, and business mailboxes.
  2. For each attempt, record the provider event, inbox or spam placement, and SPF, DKIM, and DMARC results from the received message.
  3. Compare the providers on implementation effort, authentication setup, transactional and broadcast separation, event and suppression visibility, support needs, expected volume, and operational work your team will own.
  4. Investigate differences rather than treating a small test as a universal ranking. Inbox placement can vary by recipient provider, sending domain, reputation, and sending behavior.

No cited provider documentation establishes a universal deliverability winner or a guarantee of inbox placement. A controlled test can inform your choice for your own domain and recipient mix, but it cannot promise future results.
