Then try the matching official fixes in order, beginning with reversible checks such as administrator launch and file verification. If REDlauncher will not open, its separate troubleshooting steps may apply.
Identify where startup stops
Press Play once and note what happens: does Steam, GOG GALAXY, or Epic Games Launcher fail; does REDlauncher fail to open; does REDlauncher appear but the game never start; or does the game process open and then crash? Record any pop-up and its exact wording. These symptoms point to different troubleshooting paths.
CD PROJEKT RED’s support form also asks whether the game starts from its installation-folder executable, with ...\Cyberpunk 2077\bin\x64\Cyberpunk2077.exe as an example. Treat this as useful diagnostic information, not a guaranteed workaround.
Check Windows and system requirements
CD PROJEKT RED says Windows 11 will be the minimum required operating system for Cyberpunk 2077 following Microsoft’s end of Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. The studio says it will no longer test the game on Windows 10, citing the end of ongoing security updates, official platform support, and continued GPU driver support. See its Windows 10 end-of-support notice for the current statement.

The system requirements apply to the base game and Phantom Liberty from Update 2.0. CD PROJEKT RED lists 70 GB of SSD storage, with different capability targets for non-ray-tracing, ray-tracing, and Overdrive configurations. For example, its non-ray-tracing minimum target is 1080p/low/30 FPS with 12 GB RAM, while its recommended target is 1080p/high/60 FPS with 16 GB RAM. The Overdrive 2160p/60 FPS tier lists an RTX 4080, 16 GB VRAM, 24 GB RAM, and NVMe storage. These are configuration targets, not a guarantee that a PC will launch the game.
The requirements page includes an older Windows 10 row; use the newer end-of-support notice above for current OS guidance. If your PC lacks the required SSD capacity, check your drive and installation space before considering hardware. An SSD is not a universal fix for launch failures, and any replacement must match your PC’s form factor and interface.

If REDlauncher will not open
Use this path when the store client opens but REDlauncher itself does not. CD PROJEKT RED’s REDlauncher troubleshooting instructions recommend the following:
- Close the store client, then run Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or GOG GALAXY as administrator. Right-click its shortcut and choose Run as administrator.
- Delete the local REDlauncher folder at
%localappdata%ProgramsCD Projekt Red. - Check the game’s launch options and remove any launch parameters while diagnosing the problem. Try starting the game again from the store client.
If REDlauncher still fails, contact CD PROJEKT RED support and include the platform and any error message.

If the game itself will not start
When the store client and REDlauncher open but the game does not, follow CD PROJEKT RED’s game-won’t-launch guidance. Work through these steps one at a time so you can tell whether a change helps:
- Confirm the requirements. Compare your Windows version, hardware, and available storage with the current requirements and OS notice above.
- Run the store client as administrator. Close it, right-click its shortcut, choose Run as administrator, and try launching the game.
- Clean-install your graphics driver. Use the instructions for your GPU vendor: NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. If the problem began immediately after a driver update, CD PROJEKT RED advises installing the previous driver version and reporting the issue.
- Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable packages. Reinstall both x86 and x64 packages, running each installer as administrator.
- Verify the game files in your platform. Use the path for the client where you own the game:
- Steam: Library → right-click Cyberpunk 2077 → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. Steam’s verification instructions explain the process.
- Epic Games Launcher: Library → three dots beside the game → Manage → Verify. See Epic’s file-verification instructions.
- GOG GALAXY: Owned games → Cyberpunk 2077 → Customize → Manage installation → Verify/Repair. GOG’s verification instructions cover the platform process.
- Temporarily disable overlays and close unnecessary apps. Turn off overlay features such as Discord or Ubisoft Connect overlays, and close applications that use them. CD PROJEKT RED also suggests closing unnecessary applications, including hardware-monitoring and antivirus or anti-malware software, as a diagnostic step. Restore any protection you disabled after testing.
If you use mods or see a script error
For a corrupted or missing scripts error, CD PROJEKT RED’s mod-user guidance recommends verifying the game files. If you have mods installed, disable them and test the unmodded game. If it launches, add mods back in batches to isolate the source. This applies to modded installations or relevant script errors; it does not establish that mods cause every launch failure. Back up important files before making manual changes.

Contact support with useful diagnostics
If the official checks do not resolve the problem, use the CD PROJEKT RED PC technical support form. Include the exact error text or code, your platform and game version, and whether you used mods, trainers, or console commands. Say whether the game starts from the installation-folder executable, as that helps support distinguish a launcher problem from a game startup problem.
If the game crashes, the support instructions ask for the latest stacktrace.txt from %localappdata%REDEngineReportQueue, where available. They also ask for a DxDiag report: press Windows key + R, enter DxDiag, and choose Save All Information….
