The ALLDAQ ADQ-USB 3.0-ISO family provides galvanic isolation between a USB host and a downstream device, with listed support for USB 3.0 SuperSpeed up to 5 Gbit/s. The right version depends on your host’s USB generation, the device’s current draw, the supply available at the installation, and the isolation rating required: the standard and -PS models have different power arrangements from the -W, and the -W’s isolation specification is not interchangeable with theirs.
What the ALLDAQ USB isolator is for
The ADQ-USB 3.0-ISO is a hardware isolator placed between a computer or other USB host and a USB device. Galvanic isolation electrically separates the two sides of the connection. ALLDAQ lists measurement, industrial control, automotive testing and audio among its intended applications, including isolating measuring equipment from a PC and addressing ground-loop hum in studio or event systems. These are manufacturer-stated use cases, not a guarantee that the isolator will remove hum in every setup.
ALLDAQ also describes the device as useful when a host USB port cannot provide enough current for the downstream device. In that role, the isolator can be externally powered to supply more current on its device side; it does not make every connected device compatible or replace checking that device’s power requirements.
Check USB compatibility before choosing a model
ALLDAQ’s datasheet lists USB 3.0 support with backward compatibility for USB 2.0, USB 1.1 and USB 1.0, and automatic negotiation among the listed data-rate modes. It specifies SuperSpeed up to 5 Gbit/s, High-Speed at 480 Mbit/s, Full-Speed at 12 Mbit/s and Low-Speed at 1.5 Mbit/s. Re-clocking and bidirectional communication are also listed.

There is an important host-side limitation: ALLDAQ warns that a USB 2.0 upstream host will not accept USB 3.0 devices connected downstream through the isolator. Check the host’s port standard as well as the device’s; backward compatibility does not mean a USB 2.0 host can operate a USB 3.0 device in this arrangement.
The upstream connector is USB 3.0 Type B female and the downstream connector is USB 3.0 Type A female, according to the datasheet. The listing says drivers are not needed and names Windows, macOS and Linux support.

Choose the model by supply, current and isolation requirement
The standard ADQ-USB 3.0-ISO, ADQ-USB 3.0-ISO-PS and ADQ-USB 3.0-ISO-W differ in their external power arrangements, downstream current limits and isolation specifications. ALLDAQ’s listing and datasheet give the following details; confirm the latest revision and the exact regional SKU before procurement.

These ratings are variant-specific. In particular, the -W specification is 1.6 kVDC for 60 seconds; it is not the standard/-PS rating of 1 kVDC continuous and 1.5 kVAC below 60 Hz for 60 seconds. Match the exact model’s rating and test condition to the system requirement rather than treating the figures as equivalent.

Will it power your USB device?
Compare the device’s stated USB current requirement with the isolator’s limit for the selected power arrangement. The standard and -PS models are listed for up to 200 mA when bus-powered, rising to up to 900 mA with external power. The -W requires external power and is listed for up to 900 mA. If the device needs more than the applicable limit, this product is not established as suitable for powering it.
The standard model uses a 5 VDC ±10% supply arrangement, while the -PS listing specifies an included 5 V plug-in supply. The -W requires a separate 10–36 VDC supply from the buyer. ALLDAQ lists a 1.5 m USB 3.0 A-to-B cable and a quick guide among the supplied items; the -W listing also names its mating power connector. Check the listing for the exact package and region before ordering.

Limits and application cautions
- Medical use: ALLDAQ states that this model is not approved for medical applications.
- Multiple isolators: The manufacturer says cascading multiple USB isolators is not supported.
- Ground-loop results: The product is positioned for ground-loop suppression, but whether it resolves audible hum depends on the particular system; the manufacturer listing does not establish a universal result.
- Voltage peaks: ALLDAQ mentions protection against voltage peaks as an application, but the materials cited here do not quantify a surge-protection level. Do not treat that wording as a specific transient rating or safety certification.
