1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe right Google Messages alternative depends on whether you need carrier texting or private internet chat. For ordinary SMS/MMS—and potentially RCS—choose an SMS-capable Android app. Signal is a strong option for private messaging when both people use it, but it cannot send or receive SMS/MMS. For Samsung users affected by the U.S. discontinuation of Samsung Messages, Samsung recommends switching to Google Messages.
Choose by the kind of messaging you need
“Texting” can mean messages sent through your mobile carrier or chats sent over the internet. These are not interchangeable: an internet messenger generally cannot replace an SMS inbox for reaching any phone number.
- Need to text phone numbers over your carrier? Use an SMS-capable default messaging app. If RCS matters, verify that the app and your carrier support it; the sources here do not establish current RCS support for Textra or Pulse SMS.
- Want private chats with people who will use the same service? Consider Signal. Signal conversations require both people to use Signal and an internet connection.
- Want customization or access across devices? Textra and Pulse are alternatives to investigate, but confirm their current capabilities in their app listings before switching.
How the main alternatives compare
| App | Best fit | SMS/MMS and RCS | Encryption and other considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Signal | Private chats when both people use Signal | Does not send or receive SMS/MMS; RCS support is not established here | Signal says Signal conversations are always end-to-end encrypted. It offers backup and transfer options with different recovery constraints. |
| Textra SMS | People seeking SMS-app customization | Described as an SMS alternative; current RCS support is not established by the cited source | Do not assume Google Messages-style RCS or encryption based on the available description. |
| Pulse SMS | People seeking customization and cross-device text access | Current RCS support is not established by the cited source | Do not assume Google Messages-style RCS or encryption based on the available description. |
| Google Messages | Galaxy users following Samsung’s U.S. transition recommendation, or users who want an SMS/RCS app | Supports SMS/MMS and RCS; encryption depends on message type and eligibility | End-to-end encryption applies to eligible RCS conversations, not SMS/MMS. |
Android Central’s July 2026 roundup describes Textra as customizable and Pulse SMS as customizable with cross-device text access. Those are secondary-source descriptions, not confirmation of every current feature.
Signal is a private messenger, not an SMS replacement
Signal removed its Android SMS/MMS feature. Its support page states: “No. You can not send or receive insecure SMS/MMS with Signal.” That means installing Signal alone will not preserve carrier texting with people who do not use Signal. See Signal’s SMS/MMS FAQ.

- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Signal is suited to conversations where both participants use the app. Signal says, “Signal conversations are always end-to-end encrypted, which means that they can only be read or heard by your intended recipients.” This describes Signal conversations, not ordinary SMS/MMS sent through another app. See Signal’s privacy FAQ.
What Google Messages encrypts—and what it does not
Google Messages end-to-end encryption is available for eligible RCS conversations; it is not available for SMS or MMS. Do not assume a conversation is encrypted simply because it appears in Google Messages. Check the chat’s status and RCS settings. Google’s guidance says to make sure RCS chats are turned on, since “end-to-end encryption isn’t available for SMS or MMS messages.” Read Google’s encryption guidance for the current eligibility details.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Samsung Messages users in the U.S.: what to do
Samsung’s current U.S. end-of-service notice recommends Google Messages as the default messaging app for affected users. It says devices running Android 11 or lower are not affected by that notice. The announcement is specific to the U.S.; check Samsung’s local support information if you are elsewhere. Samsung’s notice is at Samsung Messages.
Because Samsung’s recommended destination is Google Messages, switching to a different app is a separate choice—not a requirement of the transition. If you need an alternative, decide first whether it handles the carrier messages and features you rely on.

Plan for message history before switching
Changing messaging apps and changing phones are different tasks. If you are moving Signal conversations, choose a supported recovery route before you erase or replace a device. Signal documents optional end-to-end encrypted Secure Backups that use a recovery key, encrypted on-device backup files for Android and Desktop, and device-to-device transfers. These routes have different platform and recovery constraints: Android on-device backups cannot be restored on iPhone, and device-to-device transfers work within the same platform. Review Signal’s backups and transfers guide before proceeding.
