These products are not three versions of the same legal research tool. Lexis+ with Protégé and Westlaw’s AI offerings add AI to legal research platforms built around legal content and research workflows. Bluehost Privacy+ is positioned as a privacy-oriented workspace for using multiple general AI models; Bluehost says it does not include proprietary legal research databases. The right choice depends on whether you need authority-backed legal research, a private general-AI workspace, or both.

Product names and features can change. LexisNexis said Lexis+ AI was renamed Lexis+ with Protégé as of February 2026. The current Westlaw page lists Westlaw Edge with AI-Assisted Research and Westlaw Advantage; Bluehost calls its legal offer AI All-Access Pack Privacy+ for Legal Firms.

What Lexis+ with Protégé offers

LexisNexis describes Lexis+ as an integrated legal research platform with legal content, Practical Guidance, document analysis, litigation analytics, and Shepard’s citation services. Its Protégé layer adds generative and agentic AI for conversational search, drafting, and answers grounded in documents. LexisNexis also describes Shepard’s Verify and Citation Service as checking citations for validation, status, and treatment. These are vendor descriptions, not independent test findings. See Lexis+ and Lexis+ with Protégé.

When assessing it, look beyond the presence of an AI assistant: confirm that the content, practice areas, jurisdictions, and user seats included in the specific package match your work. Ask how research answers connect to primary authority, how citations are surfaced and checked, and which drafting or document-analysis features are included in your proposed subscription.

What Westlaw’s AI offerings add

Westlaw Edge with AI-Assisted Research

Thomson Reuters describes this offering as including natural-language research answers, AI Jurisdictional Surveys, AI-enhanced Quick Check, and WestSearch Plus. These features sit within Westlaw’s legal research environment; evaluate them against the jurisdictions and content your team needs, and ask how answers link to supporting authority. The feature descriptions are from Thomson Reuters’ Westlaw page.

Westlaw Advantage

Thomson Reuters positions Westlaw Advantage as an advanced AI offering that includes Westlaw Edge with AI-Assisted Research, plus Deep Research, Claims Explorer, and Litigation Document Analyzer. It describes Deep Research as agentic and frames the product as combining agentic AI with Westlaw content. Ask for demonstrations using representative workflows and clarify which capabilities and content are included in the quoted plan.

Westlaw names KeyCite among its citation tools. Compare citation validation and treatment workflows with the corresponding tools you use today, rather than treating the presence of an AI-generated answer as a substitute for checking authorities.

What Bluehost Privacy+ is—and is not

Bluehost markets Privacy+ as a workspace with access to multiple AI models through one dashboard, private access, encrypted conversations, and prompt sanitization for sensitive legal details. Its legal page gives examples such as record summaries, case chronologies, intake and document-review support, and client-communication drafts. These are Bluehost’s feature and security representations; they do not establish independent security certification, privilege protection, or compliance with a particular legal or regulatory duty. Details are on Bluehost’s legal product page.

Bluehost’s own comparison says Privacy+ does not provide proprietary legal research databases and positions it as complementary to research-focused platforms. It should therefore be assessed as a general-AI workspace, not as a replacement for LexisNexis or Westlaw when a task requires researching legal authority. See Bluehost’s comparison.

How to choose for a firm

  1. Start with the research requirement. If attorneys need legal-content search, answers tied to authority, citation treatment, and legal research workflows, compare Lexis+ with Protégé and the Westlaw plans. If the need is a multi-model AI workspace for broader drafting and document tasks, assess Privacy+ as a separate category.
  2. Match coverage to your practice. Ask LexisNexis and Thomson Reuters for the jurisdictions, content, practice-area tools, and seat scope in the proposed package. Do not assume that similarly named AI features cover the same sources or workflows.
  3. Test workflows, not slogans. Use representative tasks: locate and validate authority, review a document, draft from provided material, or analyze a litigation document. Check whether the system exposes sources and whether staff can verify outputs in the normal workflow.
  4. Review Privacy+ data handling before use. For any sensitive matter, examine current contract terms and technical documentation for retention, encryption, prompt sanitization, access controls, available models, and administrator features. Compare those details with firm policy and confidentiality obligations; marketing language alone is not a compliance determination.
  5. Get comparable total quotes. LexisNexis says its pricing depends on organizational size, selected content and tools, number of users, and practice areas or jurisdictions. Thomson Reuters routes buyers to pricing and sales. Request itemized quotes for equivalent seats, content, and functionality, then compare contract terms as well as subscription cost.

Pricing and evidence limits

The only public figure among these reviewed pages is Bluehost’s $25 per user per month, billed monthly, as listed on its legal product page accessed in 2026. Check the live offer before purchase. The reviewed LexisNexis and Thomson Reuters pages do not establish like-for-like public prices: LexisNexis describes tailored pricing, while Thomson Reuters directs prospective buyers to pricing and sales.

The reviewed vendor pages do not provide an independent head-to-head measure of accuracy, time savings, or privacy performance across the three products. A universal winner cannot be established from these descriptions. Choose through a content and workflow fit assessment, security review, and comparable quote process.
