The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at $1,899.99 in the U.S. before trade-in, while Apple lists the iPhone Duo at $1,999 for 256GB. That makes Apple’s listed starting price $99.01 higher. Both have a 7.6-inch inner display, but the Fold8 is lighter on the reported specifications and the Duo offers a 2TB storage option Samsung does not list. These are specification and price comparisons, not results from controlled hands-on tests.

How much more does the iPhone Duo cost?

Using the listed U.S. starting prices, the iPhone Duo costs $99.01 more than the Galaxy Z Fold8: $1,999 minus $1,899.99. The comparison is between starting prices before taxes, carrier terms, trade-in credits or promotions. Apple’s starting configuration is 256GB; Samsung’s listed starting price is not a like-for-like price comparison across all storage tiers.

Samsung advertises promotions on its product page, so its listed starting price is not necessarily the price a buyer will pay at checkout. Compare the same storage capacity and any carrier or trade-in conditions before deciding; the final gap can change.

Which foldable is lighter and thinner?

Reported specifications favor the Fold8 for weight and folded thickness. Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201g, while 9to5Mac’s September 10, 2026 comparison lists the Duo at 254g: a 53g difference. The same comparison lists the Fold8 at 9.7mm folded and the Duo at 11.3mm, making the Samsung 1.6mm thinner by those figures. These are reported specifications, not measurements made in a controlled test here, and they do not establish which phone feels more comfortable to hold.

Are the displays the same size?

Both phones have a 7.6-inch inner display, but that diagonal does not tell the whole story. Samsung lists a 5.5-inch cover screen and a 4:3 main-screen ratio; Apple lists a 5.4-inch outer screen. The different outer displays and inner-screen proportions can affect how apps, video and multitasking layouts appear. Apple says both Duo screens support up to 120Hz ProMotion and reach 3,000 nits peak brightness. These are Apple’s product specifications, not comparative brightness measurements.

Samsung describes Galaxy AI and multitasking on the Fold8’s wide screens, while Apple describes a foldable iOS 27 experience and Apple Intelligence. Those are vendor descriptions; they do not establish that one phone handles apps or multitasking better. Consider the operating system and apps you already use, and try the interfaces if possible.

How do storage, cameras and processors compare?

Storage

The Fold8 is listed in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB configurations. Apple lists those capacities plus a 2TB iPhone Duo. The Duo therefore has the higher published maximum; whether that matters depends on how much content you keep on the device and whether you use cloud storage.

Cameras

Samsung lists dual 50MP wide and ultra-wide rear sensors and up to 10x digital zoom. Apple lists a 48MP Dual Fusion camera system with up to 2x optical-quality zoom. These descriptions and megapixel counts do not show how the phones compare in real photos or video. No controlled side-by-side camera test is established here, so seek sample images and video from both phones rather than choosing by sensor numbers alone.

Processors

Samsung names the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy; Apple names the A20 Pro. They are different platforms running different operating systems. The chip names alone do not demonstrate which device is faster in everyday use, gaming or sustained workloads, and no controlled performance comparison is established here.

What do the battery-life figures mean?

Samsung lists a 4,800mAh battery and up to 26 hours of video playback. Apple claims up to 31 hours of video playback using the Duo’s inner display. Apple says its figure is based on testing preproduction hardware and a representative use profile; its typical-use description includes equal use of the inner and outer displays. Samsung’s published figure does not establish an identical test protocol. These are separate manufacturer claims, not a matched battery test, so the figures do not establish a battery-life winner.

Which phone should you choose?

  • Choose the Fold8 if: the listed lower starting price, lower reported weight, thinner folded profile, Samsung’s software and services, or its wide-screen multitasking approach best fit your priorities.
  • Choose the iPhone Duo if: you prefer Apple’s operating system and ecosystem, want the listed 2TB storage option, or value the features Apple describes for its foldable iOS experience.
  • Compare both in person if: comfort, crease visibility, hinge feel, screen proportions, durability or app behavior will determine your choice. The available side-by-side coverage said deeper comparisons of hinges, displays and crease visibility, sturdiness and performance were still pending around the Duo’s launch.

There is no universal winner established by these specifications. For camera quality, sustained performance, real-world battery life and durability, the available figures do not substitute for controlled comparative testing.
