If a custom fold animation does not work on your Galaxy Z Fold, first identify what you mean by “fold animation.” It could be a wallpaper or lock-screen effect, an app failing to continue between the cover and main displays, a managed startup or shutdown animation, or an effect intended to play during the physical folding movement. Each has a different fix. Samsung’s documentation covers the first three, but does not establish a universal consumer setting for a custom animation triggered by physically folding the phone.
Identify which animation is failing
Use the screen and timing of the problem to choose the right troubleshooting path:

If the effect is a wallpaper, lock-screen transition, or clock
Check the feature’s scope
Samsung describes Wonderland as a Good Lock feature for animated lock and home wallpapers, including custom transitions from Always On Display to the lock screen. Edge Lighting+ provides notification visuals. Neither description establishes that these features change the animation played by the phone as it physically folds. Make sure the effect you selected is designed to appear on the screen and at the moment you expect.
Update the relevant module and check its limits
Update the Good Lock module responsible for the effect through its supported store route, then check the module’s settings again. If the problem is specifically the Adaptive Clock (also called Stretch Clock) on Android 16 or One UI 8, Samsung identifies outdated Lock Star as a possible cause: version 7.0.00.14 may have the issue, and Samsung names Lock Star 7.0.1.10 as the fix. To check the software version, open Settings → About phone → Software information; check Lock Star’s version in Good Lock. Samsung also says Adaptive Clock does not support multi-pack backgrounds. If an app fails to continue when you fold or unfold
Try the consumer setting
- Open Settings → Display → Full screen apps.
- Select the app that has the problem and choose Full screen.
- Test the app while moving between the cover and main displays.
Menu labels can vary by device and software release. Samsung cautions that some apps may not fully support App continuity, so this setting may not resolve an app-level limitation. Samsung’s support guide to Flex mode and apps on Galaxy foldables.
Understand restarts and app compatibility
Continuity means restoring an app’s state after a configuration change, such as folding or unfolding. Samsung’s developer guidance recommends resizable support for broad compatibility with dynamic screen sizes and form factors. If an app is not resizable, it may need to restart when the available display area changes; Samsung says a restart icon can appear so the user can restart the activity in the new configuration. Samsung also documents android.supports_size_changes for certain apps that do not support multi-window but need continuity. If the animation is at startup or shutdown
First establish whether the device is managed using Knox Configure. The cited instructions concern enterprise device management, not a normal Good Lock customization. For a managed Galaxy Z Fold, assign a cover-screen animation as well as the main-screen animation. Samsung warns that the cover screen may appear black during boot or shutdown if only a main-screen animation is configured. Knox Configure: Sound & Display.

Samsung’s cited documentation describes screen and wallpaper effects, app continuity, and enterprise boot or shutdown animations. It does not establish a universal consumer control for a custom animation driven by the physical folding movement. That is a limit of the documented feature scope, not proof that no model-specific implementation exists.

Before seeking a fix, note the exact Galaxy Z Fold model, Android and One UI versions, the app or module providing the effect, and what actually happens: no animation, a static image, a crash, a black screen, an app restart, or a transition on only one display. Check whether that particular feature explicitly supports your model and software version. If the phone also has hinge resistance, display failure, or other physical symptoms, treat those as a separate hardware issue and contact Samsung support or an authorized service provider; a physical accessory is not an established fix for an animation-only limitation.
