Find a free Steam game’s downloadable content (DLC) on its Store page or by searching Steam. To check DLC associated with your account and its installation status, open the game’s Library page and go to Properties > DLC. Whether a game offers DLC, whether it costs money, and how it is activated depend on that game.
Find out whether the game offers DLC
Steam lists DLC on the base game’s Store page when the game offers it. You can also search the Steam Store for the game’s name or for a specific DLC. Steam’s DLC instructions describe both routes.

- Open the game’s Steam Store page and look for its DLC section.
- If you do not see the content there, search Steam for the game or the specific DLC name.
- Check the individual DLC listing for its price and any terms or limitations. Not every free-to-play game offers DLC, and free access to the base game does not mean every add-on is free.
Check and install DLC from your Steam Library
Steam provides three routes to the game’s DLC controls. The most direct is usually the Library context menu:
- Open Library and right-click the game.
- Select Properties, then open DLC.
- Review the DLC associated with your account and its installed status. If the content is available but not installed, use the control shown in that DLC entry to install it.
You can reach the same view from the game’s Library page by selecting its gear icon, then Properties > DLC. Alternatively, scroll to the DLC section on that page and choose Manage My DLC. Steam documents these options in its DLC support article.

The DLC view reports whether content is installed; it does not guarantee that every game’s DLC is automatically enabled or immediately available in-game. Activation and access can depend on the game, so check its Store page or the developer’s instructions if the content does not appear after installation.
Track the download
If it is unclear whether Steam has started or finished installing the DLC, open Steam’s Download Manager and check the game’s download or update activity. Steam’s Managing Steam Downloads & Updates guide explains download management.

What “free-to-play” does—and does not—mean
Steam says free-to-play games can be downloaded and played without a subscription or credit card. That describes access to the base game, not necessarily its add-ons. A game may offer paid optional content, free DLC, or no DLC; check the specific listing for its price and restrictions. See Steam’s free-to-play FAQ for its platform-level explanation.

Where to get help if DLC is missing
- Gameplay or technical issue in a third-party game: contact the developer or publisher. Steam describes finding the contact option through the game’s Library Support area in its Third-Party Game Support article.
- Account, purchase, or Steam-client issue: contact Steam Support.
