Unspent Platinum Points expire six months after you collect them; icon elements you have already redeemed stay in your Icon Collection, even if your Nintendo Switch Online membership ends. The offer catalog has a separate schedule: icon themes change monthly and available elements refresh weekly. Those are three different clocks, so an element leaving the catalog does not mean a redeemed one has expired.

What expires—and what does not

What you have What happens
Unspent Platinum Points Valid for six months after collection. Nintendo processes expiration at 11:59:59 p.m. PDT on the last day of the month; when PST is in effect, processing occurs one hour later. Nintendo’s My Nintendo points guidance explains the timing.
Icon elements already redeemed Remain accessible in your Icon Collection, including after your Nintendo Switch Online membership ends. Nintendo Support states: “Once an icon element has been added to your Icon Collection, you will not lose access to it—even if you no longer have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership.” Read Nintendo’s support guide.
Elements currently offered but not yet redeemed May no longer be available after the catalog refreshes. Nintendo says themes change monthly and elements refresh weekly. See Nintendo’s Missions & Rewards announcement.
Points for a mission you completed Some missions have a separate collection deadline. If it passes, the activity can count as completed without the points being granted. Collect them in Missions or My Nintendo before the deadline shown for that mission. Nintendo Support explains mission deadlines.

Nintendo’s example for the points rule: points collected on April 15, 2025 expire on October 31, 2025. That illustrates the month-end expiration rule; it is not the expiration date for redeemed icon elements. Check your signed-in account’s Points history for your own balance and expired points. Nintendo’s My Nintendo Points Overview provides the example and history guidance.

How to get and use icon rewards

On a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 console connected to the internet, open Nintendo Switch Online from the HOME Menu, select your user, and choose Missions & Rewards. Browse the currently offered games and elements, check each item’s requirements, and redeem elements with Platinum Points. The element types are characters, backgrounds, and frames. Open Icon Collection to view redeemed elements and create or select an icon. Nintendo’s April 7, 2026 icon-maker explainer describes the same flow.

Nintendo’s regional support instructions say elements from different games cannot be combined. Names and interface labels may vary by region: the Americas support page calls them “icon elements,” while some UK and Australian pages use “icon parts.” Consult the instructions for your region if your console’s labels or conditions differ: Nintendo UK and Nintendo Australia.

Membership and item requirements

Redeeming icon elements requires an active, paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and an internet-connected Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. Requirements can be stricter for individual rewards: an element may require an Expansion Pack membership, playing the related game while the element is available, or playing on at least three separate days within the previous 30 days. These are item-specific conditions, not the general Platinum Point expiration rule. Check the reward’s requirements in Missions & Rewards before spending points. Nintendo Support lists the eligibility details; its Expansion Pack FAQ confirms that Expansion Pack-exclusive elements already added to the collection remain accessible when that membership ends.

How to avoid losing points or missing an element

  • Check Points history for your current Platinum Point balance and expiration information rather than relying on the date you last checked.
  • When a mission is complete, return to Missions or My Nintendo and collect its points before the displayed deadline.
  • If you want an element in the current rotation, redeem it while it is available; a catalog refresh can remove an unredeemed offer.
  • Review each item’s eligibility before redeeming, especially if it mentions Expansion Pack access or recent play.

Mission availability and ways to earn points can vary by country or region. Your console’s current Missions & Rewards screen and your account’s Points history are the best references for the offers and balance available to you.
