Capacity is nominal: Samsung notes that pre-installed software affects the storage actually available for personal files. The company does not define “typical” or give a numerical threshold for when someone needs a particular tier.
How to decide which capacity suits you
Choose 128GB if most of your content is streamed
Samsung frames 128GB for everyday messaging, streaming, social media, and a typical photo and video collection. It is the most sensible starting point if you rarely download films or music, do not keep a large offline library, and use a typical selection of apps.
Choose 256GB for a larger local library
Consider 256GB if you keep more apps, photos, videos, or other files directly on your phone, or want more room for creative work. Samsung groups both 256GB and 512GB with content creators, avid photographers, and people who store more media and files. That is qualitative guidance, not a measured storage requirement.

Choose 512GB if you know you store a lot locally
The 512GB version may suit you if you regularly keep substantial files on the device and would rather not frequently remove or move content. Check that this configuration is actually sold by your carrier or retailer in your country before planning around it.
Check local prices and availability before upgrading
On October 4, 2026, Samsung’s US purchase page showed $699.99 for 128GB and $799.99 for 256GB; it did not display the 512GB tier. These are page listings, not a promise of the price at checkout. TechRadar’s September 24, 2026 review reported launch prices of $699 / £699 / AU$1,149 for 128GB, $799 / £799 / AU$1,299 for 256GB, and £949 / AU$1,599 for 512GB, which it said was unavailable in the US. Compare the same capacity in your market and check the precise carrier, country, color, and seller configuration. Samsung cautions that capacity availability can vary by carrier, country, or region. Promotions and prices may change, so use the seller’s current listing rather than relying on a launch price.
Consider the base Galaxy S26 when comparing value
A higher-storage FE is not automatically the best value against the base Galaxy S26. TechRadar noted that base S26 models have twice as much storage by default, making a like-for-like price comparison important. What longer software support means for storage
Samsung’s UK product page describes the S26 FE as running One UI 9 based on Android 17 and promises seven major Android OS upgrades and up to seven years of security patches. A longer planned ownership period can make it worth thinking about how much content you expect to keep locally over time; it does not establish that every buyer needs a higher capacity.
