Its published examples include 48 V automotive power conversion, lidar and time-of-flight sensing, and brushless motor drives. These are manufacturer-described applications and benefits, not independent comparative test results.
Where EPC says its GaN devices fit
EPC’s application materials point to systems where engineers care about switching behavior, efficiency, size, and power density. The specific use cases differ by market:
- Automotive: EPC identifies 48 V power systems, lidar and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), motor drives, infotainment and Class-D audio, and headlamps.
- Robotics: Its robotics brief covers DC-DC power conversion, lidar or time-of-flight (ToF) sensing, and brushless DC (BLDC) motor drives.
- Drones and compact motion: Later EPC materials describe motor-drive ICs and evaluation inverters for humanoid robots, drone propulsion, light electric vehicles, and other compact systems.
These examples show how EPC markets its portfolio; they do not establish adoption across an industry or prove that GaN outperforms alternatives in every design.
Automotive applications and a representative device
EPC lists 48 V hybrid and electric power conversion, lidar and ADAS, vehicle motor drives, infotainment and Class-D audio among its automotive applications. A June 2023 EPC brief also describes 48 V-to-12 V bidirectional conversion for mild hybrids and 24 V-to-48 V DC-DC conversion for cars and trucks. Treat the latter as examples from that dated brief, and consult current product documentation for part recommendations.

EPC2206: product-page specifications
EPC describes the EPC2206 as an 80 V enhancement-mode GaN transistor and identifies it as AEC-Q101 qualified. Its current product page lists a maximum on-resistance (RDS(on)) of 2.2 mΩ, 90 A drain current, and 390 A pulsed drain current. These are device-page figures, not a complete system operating specification. The same page names 48 V power distribution, DC-DC conversion, BLDC motor drives, infotainment, high-intensity headlamps, and a 48 V-to-12 V bidirectional mild-hybrid converter as applications. See EPC’s EPC2206 product page.
EPC says its automotive portfolio includes AEC-Q-qualified FETs and ICs and describes automotive field experience. Qualification is product-specific: verify the exact part and its current qualification and reliability documentation against the requirements of the intended vehicle application. EPC’s automotive selector identifies the EPC2206 as “Preferred,” a status that may change.

Robotics, drones, and compact motor systems
EPC’s 2023 robotics brief describes eGaN FETs and ICs for DC-DC supplies, lidar/ToF systems, and BLDC motors. For one integrated-motor application, it gives a vendor-stated range of 48–100 V input, 10–40 A, and 500 W–2 kW. This is an application example in the brief, not a universal robotics specification.
The brief also cites switching up to 200 MHz and pulses under 2 ns for the ToF systems it describes. Those figures are claims tied to that source’s systems and context; they should not be read as ratings for every EPC device. EPC’s claim that its GaN devices can improve efficiency, reduce size, or lower system cost likewise needs to be assessed in the design at hand. Read the EPC robotics market brief for its stated examples and context.

Announced inverter evaluation platforms
On April 14, 2026, EPC announced the EPC9186HC2 and EPC9186HC3, three-phase BLDC inverter evaluation platforms based on the EPC2361 100 V eGaN FET. EPC says the platforms support motor-drive systems up to 5 kW and lists robotics, industrial automation, light electric vehicles, scooters, forklifts, agricultural machinery, battery-powered mobility, and high-power drones as intended applications. “Up to 5 kW” describes the announced platform capability; it is not a general rating for GaN devices or a guarantee for every motor, cooling arrangement, or operating condition. See EPC’s announcement.
Gen 7 devices and integrated power stages
In a May 2026 technical article, EPC describes its Gen 7 portfolio and integrated ePower Stage ICs, including EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111, for humanoid robotics, drone propulsion, and compact motion systems. The article also describes EPC91122 and EPC91132 reference designs based on EPC33110, and reports plans to demonstrate a robotic arm and drone propulsion system. These are EPC’s portfolio descriptions and demonstration plans, not independent findings about comparative performance. See EPC’s Gen 7 robotics article.

How to compare a device or evaluation inverter
Start with the actual electrical and mechanical requirements of the target system. A component’s headline voltage or current figure alone is not enough to establish suitability.
For a FET
- Check maximum drain-source voltage against the bus voltage and expected transients.
- Compare on-resistance, continuous and pulsed current ratings, gate charge, and switching requirements using the operating conditions in the datasheet.
- Assess package, thermal path, and the board or cooling design needed to manage heat.
- Confirm that the device’s qualification and reliability documentation meets the application requirements, especially for automotive use.
- Check compatibility with the intended topology and gate-drive implementation.
For an inverter evaluation platform
- Compare bus-voltage, phase-current, and power capability with the motor and its operating range.
- Review switching and PWM features, sensing, protection, and included hardware.
- Check required control hardware or software, motor compatibility, cooling, and mechanical fit before treating a platform rating as achievable in the complete system.
EPC product pages provide datasheets, evaluation boards, application notes, device models, and design tools. Use the relevant documentation to establish design limits; application-specific engineering is still necessary.

What EPC’s published claims establish—and what they do not
The cited material is primarily from EPC. It establishes the applications EPC targets, the products and evaluation hardware it describes, and the specifications or benefits the company publishes. It does not, by itself, establish independent comparative efficiency, smaller finished systems, lower total system cost, market adoption, or suitability for a particular design. No market-size, unit-sales, or adoption statistic is established by these materials.
