It uses yt-dlp and related components for media sources, and the project says downloads stay on your computer. Its listed features and supported sites come from project documentation, not independent testing.
What is OmniGet?
OmniGet is a graphical desktop downloader maintained in the OmniGet GitHub repository. The project describes it as free and open source under the GPL-3.0 license. This is the downloader at getomniget.com and github.com/tonhowtf/omniget, not the unrelated e-commerce data service at omniget.com.
Rather than handling every media source itself, OmniGet relies on yt-dlp and associated tools. The project says it can also handle direct file downloads and torrent files or magnet links. Its documentation describes downloaded files as remaining on the user’s computer.
What can OmniGet download?
The project lists YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, Reddit, and Twitch among its media sources, as well as HLS and DASH streams and sites supported by yt-dlp. It also describes downloads of direct HTTP files, torrent files, and magnet links. Support for individual sites can change as websites and upstream tools are updated, so a listed service is not a guarantee that every link will work.

What download controls does it offer?
The repository describes settings for preferred quality and audio format, subtitles, filename templates, download folders, duplicate handling, chapter splitting, speed limits, concurrent downloads, and proxies. It also describes progress reporting, resume behavior, and retry handling. Consult the documentation for the release you install to confirm which controls and options are available in that version.
Does OmniGet work on Windows, Mac, and Linux?
The project identifies builds for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Installation packages and minimum system requirements depend on the release; check the current repository’s release instructions rather than relying on a compatibility claim from an older version.

Does OmniGet send telemetry?
The OmniGet privacy page states: “The OmniGet app sends no telemetry.” The same page says the app connects to GitHub to check for updates, to download sources for yt-dlp and FFmpeg, to sites a user asks it to download from, and to an AI provider if one is configured. “No telemetry” should therefore be read as the project’s claim about app telemetry, not as a claim that the app makes no network connections.
The privacy page also discusses the website’s cookies, analytics, and contact board. Those website disclosures are separate from the desktop app’s behavior.
