A reproduced Tesla report says the company used Bunkspeed HyperShot and HyperDrive to create imagery for the virtual launch of its Roadster Sport Edition at the Detroit Auto Show in February 2009. That is evidence of a historical project, not proof of a current Tesla-Bunkspeed relationship.
What Bunkspeed software did Tesla use?
The reproduced report names two products: Bunkspeed HyperShot and Bunkspeed HyperDrive. It says Tesla used them to create imagery for the virtual launch of the Roadster Sport Edition. The account is reproduced on Scribd; the original Tesla announcement was not located, so the use claim should be understood as a historical report rather than independently confirmed documentation.

How did the tools fit Tesla’s design workflow?
The same reproduced passage attributes a statement to Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen: “The Bunkspeed tools integrate seamlessly within Tesla’s workflow. We make quick decisions on digital models and want to carry the use and interaction with digital models for interior and exterior work through the entire design process.” The quotation is available through that secondary reproduction, not a current Tesla source.
The stated rationale was to work with digital models during design, make decisions quickly, and use those models across interior and exterior work. This describes the workflow as presented in the reproduced report; it does not establish comparative performance against other rendering software.

What capabilities were associated with Bunkspeed?
NVIDIA’s historical application catalog described Bunkspeed Suite as photorealistic rendering software using Iray-based ray tracing, with animation and network-rendering support. This is a period description, not confirmation that the products remain available or have the same capabilities today.
In a 2010 announcement, NVIDIA said Iray had been incorporated into Bunkspeed SHOT. The announcement quoted then-Bunkspeed CEO Philip Lunn: “iray has allowed us to easily add a rendering solution to our new Bunkspeed SHOT software, making it truly state of the art in both photorealism and speed.” That statement is a vendor quotation from the announcement, not an independent benchmark.

The available evidence does not establish current Tesla use of Bunkspeed. Tesla’s current AI and robotics page discusses graphics and sensor-data simulation for debugging and automated testing, while its 2024 Form 10-K describes CAD and engineering simulation experience. Neither source names Bunkspeed, so those broad references cannot confirm an ongoing software relationship.
